How many of you guys play both pen and paper RPG's and war-games? The reason I ask is because I want to see if pen and paper RPG's are popular with war-gamers. I used to to play Warhammer

and Warhammer 40k but quit because I wasn't committed enough to paint and assemble all those minis (plus it's expensive), I loved playing the game and it's social aspect though. But one of my friends (and the

only DM I've ever had) introduced me to D&D 4th edition several years ago, I was skeptical at first (mainly due to it being labelled as a "nerdy" activity for most people) but I warmed up to it and have fallen in

love with the game. Unfortunately my DM has moved to Calgary but he does visit every few months, either way I don't play D&D at the moment due to lack of a DM and group, but I do have a few character

concepts for each of the four roles (Defender, Striker, Leader and Controller) ready if a new group and DM arises.

I started my gaming life playing Panzer Blitz and Panzer Leader from Avalon Hill. From there added the original D&D game moving quickly into AD&D. Haven't looked back since;

Wargames:
Panzer Blitz
Panzer Leader
Squad Leader
Advanced Squad Leader
Adeptus Titanticus through Epic 40,000
Blood bowl
Warhammer Fantasy from 3rd edition through about 6th
Warhammer 40k from Rogue Trader to the current version
Flames of War
Uncharted Seas
In Darkest Africa
Fields of Honor
The Sword and the Flame
and probably some others I am forgetting...

RPG highlights:
D&D from Chainmail up through 4th edition (though not much 3rd edition)
Shadowrun (regularly run a 2nd edition hybrid set of rules)
Call of Cthulhu
Paranoia
Gamma World
Top Secret
Champions
Rifts
Feng Shui
All Flesh Must be Eaten
Dark Conspiracy
and most anything else you can think of, just not much world of darkness.

So I am a gamer through and through as a roleplayer and a mini gamer.

I do know plenty of people who prefer to be one or the other, though, and if that works for them I don't mind.

Currently only play tabletop.

Have run or played in Call of cthulhu, Star Trek rpg (FASA), Star Wars rpg, Shadowrun 1-3rd ed, oWoD (vamp and werewolf), cyberpunk (2013 and 2020), 2300, and several others.

Tabletop miniature games:

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

You played Warhammer, but thought D&D was nerdy?

When did Warhammer become non-nerdy?

I started out 'exclusively' a TT mini gamer with 40k, but due to my wife's insistence, and that while in germany we found others who were of similar mindsets to us, i was introduced to rpgs by way of d&d 4th ed.

I do want to branch out into some of the 40k and other rpg series, but time, money and commitments elsewhere prevent that from happening.
