I'm switching over from my marines to Eldar (and much later to Tau) but am worried about the impending 6th ed, possible codex update. I'm relatively new to 40k, and haven't been able to find anything conclusive or when the last time the model line got an update. I don't care what is in those books. I just want to know if anyone feels that there is a chance the majority of eldar would get an overhaul, and I'd be stuck with now OOP plastic models.

For sure, Dire Avengers, Fire Prism/Nightspinner, War Walkers, and Eldar Support Weapon Batteries are not being changed. The other plastic kits are unlikely to be updated (with the exception of Jetbikes), but there is always a minute possibility. Some of the metals might be seeing a switchover to plastic, etc. but the minis themselves are still good. And then you have the "keep away" options:

Avatar
Swooping Hawks
Shining Spears

that are old and it would be surprising if they weren't changed at all... I like the warp spider minis anyway, which is why I bought 30 of them :3

Avatar is on my wish list, but not anytime soon.
Swooping Hawks need better rules before I would want them, though they look cool.
Both Shining Spears and Warp Spiders are units that I have been looking at while theorycrafting, so these might be more immediate purchases, depending on what else we discover about the model line.

I currently just have a single squad of Dire Avengers, and am looking at picking up Eldrad, a Farseer, and the Eldar Battleforce to get me started later this week.

I'm thinking about Eldar too. I can see the full metal kits being changed over to plastic in the future.

I just dislike the fact that their coolest ability leaves them off the table for half the game, really.

Anyone else have any insight? When was the last time Eldar got a model overhaul?

I thougght they had done a bunch just last year, but I. Could be wrong.

4th edition.

We got new Scorpions, banshees, Fire Dragons and Reapers.

ALL of the metals are being redone for finecast (the Farseers have been done, as have the warlocks). Not new sculpts, same sculpts in newer media.
Harlequins are also redone in finecast.

I'd assume that the Warp spiders and wraithguard will also follow them (although an exarch with more than one legal option set would be nice, and more than the three static poses we've had since 1992 would also be nice).

Jetbikes also need a revamp. The models they have now might have been an improvement on the metal RT ones (but not by much), but they are also approaching the age where they will be allowed to consume alcohol in the USA.

Every single aspect warrior has been finecast (in nice little packs of 5 + an exarch). They don't have more poses though, since the finecast is done on the old metal moulds... The only metal models left for Eldar are wraithguard, Prince Yriel and Shining Spears.
