Was looking at amima tactics wondering if was worth it to get into. If anyone has any info about the game I'd love to hear it. Been looking at it for a little while but never scene a game played in my location but wouldn't mind getting some friends into it with me. Well if the game is worth it.

I do not know of anyone that plays it in my area.

I haven't played it myself, but I have heard good things about it. Just make sure your friends like the whole 'anime' look to it, though.

It's fun. But it's not really balanced.

The demo I tried unimpressed me, but this was a fast demo
at a big con.

Cool parts: refresh system of skills/abilities. An ability costs x
number of points to use and your character has both a cap
to that pool and refreshes a certain number of those points. So
your tactical choices include balancing how often to use certain
abilities and how to use them most efficiently. If you have a
max pool of 4, a refresh rate of 2, and your super cool ability
costs 3, then you're going to think twice about using that
ability "just because."

Stuff that bored me: Rolling a d20. Maybe I didn't get the
intricacies of the combat, but rolling the d20 to resolve both
hit and damage (you roll once, if I recall correctly, and any
value you roll over the needed hit number goes into the
amount of damage that you deal) didn't command my
attention.

I love the miniatures, though, and still buy and paint them
from time to time.

It doesn't help that the person I was demoing against
wanted a full experience for the game when I just wanted
highlights of gameplay, etc.

Ya I know how that goes. I just want to get a good jist of the game and if I like it I'll do what i can to learn the more in depth rules.
lol and ya they like anime. We all play Malifaux but I been looking at this game for a while. I'm a big Dark Sun and Church fan from what I've read and seen of the minis.

I've played this game a couple of times.

Best thing is the hot anime chicks.

Worst thing is... the hot anime chicks. As far as a immersable world, and being able to relate to the game, it is hard. Personally, I recommend that you download the free rules set and cards and proxy the game, first.

I have a set of them, didn't really get into the character feel of the game, and have the hardbacked book. The mechanics are a bit over the top, the combat system is meh, and there are a few of the figures that just have a WTF feel to them that they really don't have a place in the game.

I've found the game to be kinda.... pedestrian in its vision. We know anime, and this one trys too hard sometimes. Doesn't help that some of the cold blooded killers types in the game are too cute for thier own good. Makes you want to wipe them off the table even more, and leave you wanting something more then anime chickmeat leftovers.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Where can you buy these figures? I google'd them and found some pictures, but I can't find them on the fantasy flight website, just the core sets. And if thats the only way of getting them, forget it.

Grot 6 who do you feel is over the top and how? I'm guessing the one chick with the evening goune and the huge sniper rifle. Other than that I really can't tell if they are op or not. Like a said before I'm leaning toward the dark sun aka umbrella corp or the church. My friends are looking to get into Empire, Wissenschaft, and Samael but of course they are waiting for me to take the plunge first lol.

I'm a bit of an expert here. I've played Anima at a tourney level very successfully locally and played plenty of casual games as well.

Things I like: The game has simple rules (you need to pay attention to some errata, though the cards should be updated by now) but VERY complex strategy. The characters all have a unique feel to them and you get to know them very quickly. Plus at 6 models or so for a tourney team, it's very cheap to get into. The minis are gorgeous and extremely well cast. There are no d20s involved, d10s only, and there are various to bump up the number of dice you get to roll and pick the "best" which certainly helps with those key rolls. The leaders are very cool with only a few exceptions and usually bring a lot to the table as well.

There are an equal number of males to females in the game so ignore anyone who says otherwise, though some of the art can be over the top (it's done gorgeously nonetheless). There are one or two characters from the Wissenschaft faction which are pretty game-changing, but they can be dealt with if you're willing to actually strategize (sometimes you might play for a draw from the get go and then edge out the victory). The games balance is, for the most part, very strong. It takes a few games to get it, but it's much more flexible to play a competitive list with characters you like than Warmahordes, which feels restrictive in comparison IMO.

If you have any specific questions, PM me!

Edit: And anyone saying "it's just anime" needs to actually have read the fluff at some point. It's a blend of many cultures and the art could be very much more anime-esque if it wanted to. The whole point is this sort of culturally diverse world with a rich, non-typical fantasy history that it pulls off very well. It's kind of like saying 40k is a game with "space men fighting Lord of the Rings guys."

I really didn't get into the backstory in the one game I demoed, but although the combat system was very nuanced and kinda cool, I did feel like it was a 'very anime' game with characters one at a time screaming the name of their special attack before a flashing action sequence wherein they try to pull it off.

The characters do a good job thematically once you figure them out. A big strong guy actually "feels" like a big bulky strong guy attacking, a mech feels like it's shooting lasers then ducking away. Some are somewhat Olympian god, some ninja, some fantasy knight, it's really a good mix. The church inquisitors can feel a little super attackish indeed though

Must say I can't wait to try it out. I do like how the rule book is very in depth. Eventhough I find myself scratching my headat some of the rules and how they work in the game. But i suppose I gatta jump in feet first and work out the rules as I go.
What is a better point level to learn the game 100 or 150?

Utterly fantastic models, and the rules are excellent (and the rulebook is lovely). It's a shame that I've never found anyone to play it with, it really does look like a lot of fun.

To learn the game, I'd probably go for 150. 100 will generally limit you to 2 medium-strength characters, and although that's fine to experience the core rules, having the wider breadth that 150 points gives you allows you to focus more on the interplay of multiple characters, which is key to the design of the game.

I've played it a few times with my friend. We both own a dozen or so models, and we play using the starter rules that came in the 2-fiigure intro boxes. We've got the big rulebook, but can't be bothered to use it.

The gameplay is fine - reminiscent of Warmachine in that it is card-dependent for stats and based around resource management. Also like WM there is no requirement for variant wargear. What you see on the card is what you get for that model.

The two major plusses for me are that 1/ it is possible to have a fun game with only 3 or 4 figures per side on a 2'x2' table, and 2/ some of the models are *very* nice.

Given that you only *need* (you can use more for a longer game) a small number of figs each to give it a go, The rules (at least the intro ones) are fairly straight forward, I'd recommend getting a starter box each and trying it yourself, if you are interested in the fluff and style of the models.

Cheers

I'm from the future. The future of space

I really, really like the game, but I moved to a new city and no one hear plays it. I ended up ebaying my stuff as I couldn't get any of my friends to take a break from Warmachine & Malifaux.

Solid game.

My only complaint would be that some of the detail on the miniatures is too fine/shallow. Some of them are super, super hard to paint.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Isn't there a magic item system?

Yeah! Basically each character can have a few other bits added to them. Each miniature comes with item cards-- you can also get lists/scans online. I *believe* they're also summarized in the rulebook.
