I've just been working on a list and want to see what you guys think of it. And to see if you have any advice.

HQ=175
-Pedro

Troops=513
-10 man tac squad #1 w/ Lascannon and Flamer, Rhino
-10 man tac squad #2 w/ Lascannon and melta, Serg with plasma pistol
-5 man Snipe Scouts w/ camo cloaks

Elites=290
-10 man Sternguard w/ combi-melta, drop pod

Heavy Support=475
-5 man dev squad w/ x3 missile and plasma cannon
-5 man dev squad w/ x2 Heavy Bolters and 2x lascannons
-Vindicator w/ siege shield

Transport
-Razorback

TOTAL=1485

General plan is to combat squad Tac squad #2 leaving Las on home objective and putting the extra 5 men in razorback with Pedro. Razorback and Tac squad #1 hoof it to mid-field objective.
Scout deploy in enemy territory cover to cause (slight) ruckus and maybe grab objective. Vindicator pushes forward, always forward. Devs deploy in position to help hold home and mid objectives, on a hill for good field of view. Stern Drop in and take enemy objective.

Good plan? Any way to use those extra 15 points?

Additionnal combi-weapons on the Sternguards come to mind. I would try to scratch some points for Power fists on the tactical sergeants and make use of Pedro's +1 attack bubble.

A lone drop podded squad wont last long if you don't have anything else to really threaten your opponent with (like hammernators in LR speeding for his lines). If you only advance and take midfield position with your other units (wich you should be doing with Marines) then those Sternguards will probably vanish after one turn of shooting and you'll have lost 2-3 units that quickly. Even more so if your opponent reserves his whole army.

Try getting another Drop pod in there, Power Fists on the tactical sergeant and at least 3 combi-meltas in the Sternguards so they can pack a punch to anything when they land. Personnally, I would get rid of the lone Vindicator - 140 pts (with the 15 leftovers) to allocate. Here's my advice:
Drop pod for one of the Devastators
Twin-lascanon upgrade for the Razorback
2 Power Fist
4 extra combi-meltas for the Sternguards (or 3 combi and one meltagun)

Hope that helps.
Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. Combi-meltas is what i figured for the extra 15 points. Im at work right now and wont be off until late but hopefuly I'll work in a little mathhammer before i hit the sack tonight. I also thought of dropping the scouts for some extra points since with Pedro my Stern can score.... I've only been doing war gaming for a few months and even though its some of the most fun ive had, its a lot of work.

Ok after 2 14 hour days at work I've finally had time to work on the list. Took some of the ideas you guys gave me and came up with my own after looking through my bits and models.
Here it is:

HQ= 175
-Pedro

Troops= 480
-Tac Squad #1 w/ MM, flamer, powerfist and Rhino
-Tac Squad #2 w/ lascannon, melta and powerfist

Elite= 470
-10 man Sternguard w/ x4 combi-melta, x1 combi-flamer and Drop Pod
-Dreadnought w/ Assault cannon and heavy flamer, Drop Pod

Heavy= 375
-Dev Squad #1 w/ 4x Missile and Drop Pod
-Dev Squad #2 w/ 2x lascannon and 2x Heavy bolter

Transport=40
-Razorback

TOTAL=1500

OK more or less same plan but first turn stern and dread drop down together behind enemy lines and help each other survive. Devs drop in whenever i get the roll to best position i have at the time to let them survive and fire next turn.

Is it any good?

Don't drop the Devastators unless your playing Dawn of War. In Dawn of War, the drop pod will allow you to deploy them where you need them most so ok. But in any other scenario, deploy them out of the pod and drop it empty later. Otherwise, you pay a hefty price for a squad that wont be able to shoot for at least 2 turns and will probably get shot to pieces when it gets out of it's pod.

Be wary though, CC armies will eat your first wave alive (Nidz, Orks and Dark Eldars come to mind).

Ok thanks for the insight. Any way I can combat the CC armies from hitting me hard?

Go all pod and concentrate on one part of the ennemy army.

Go all shooty and keep them at arms lenght.

Add a rock unit to counter assault (Hammernators and Land Raider being your best bet).

The "problem" is, when your two Drop units hit the back of the line, there's nothing to come and support them (two combat squad hardly cut it as support, sorry). You'll have to play smart in any case, that's for sure.

Most of the guys at my store play some variation of marines, i know of 2 guys that play orks and one nid player. Termies and LR was planed add on for 2000pts. Maybe ill try a few different drop plans for the pods to see what works best for this list, maybe dropping them in behind enemy lines isn't the best idea.... at one point i was planning on locator beacon on sternguard pod and deep strike some termies, but then they can't assault, and all i have is assault termies

That isn't that bad though. If you can get your Termies in there quick (either with lucky reserve rolls or using a librarian with gate) your opponent will have to choose between several targets. Dreadnought? Scoring Sternguard squad(s)? Deadly hammernators? Then your advancing tactical with Pedro become more of a threat, cause they're not going there alone!

Hey how did you get that elephant through the door... you'll want three squads of sternguard. Pedro does nothing for you apart from make you easier to kill by removing the amazing combat tactics. [I do not think the sternguard being scoring will come in to play if you drop them that close to the enemy]

The following gives you token troops relying on the sternguard to fulfil the role you were using the tactical squads to do.

HQ=175
-Pedro

Troops=

-5 man Snipe Scouts w/ camo cloaks
-10 man Snipe Scouts w/ Telion

Elites=
-10 man Sternguard w/ combi-melta, drop pod
-6 man sternguard w/ 4 combimeltas 2 heavy flamers, Rhino
-6 man sternguard w/ 2 meltas, Rhino

Heavy Support=475
-5 man dev squad w/ x3 missile and plasma cannon
-5 man dev squad w/ x2 Heavy Bolters and 2x lascannons
-Vindicator w/ siege shield

Transport
-Razorback

I think you had a question about cc and drop pods. The answer is you drop pod empty and remember to take enough long range weapons to play without them. Sternguard have 30'' range or something so the drop pod isn't so important. I am mostly talking about 'nids but DoA will also cause similar problems. Empty drop pods are great at contesting objectives blocking LOS and generally causing a nuisance.

I actually just played a friendly KPs game with my friend using this list and it did pretty good against his BA.... I lost but it was only my second game ever and hes been playing for 15 years. I think I'll stick with this list as is for now to get used to the game and rules...and until after the holidays when i have spare cash to get more models
