As a experienced MTG player me and my friends wanted to try out a new game, and we chose Warhammer.
So after looking through all the army profiles i fall in love with the Tau.

Now we all decided to start out with 1K armies, and here is my first attempt towards a nice 1K Tau list.

HQ 1 Commander Shas’el, 98 pts (Hard-wired Multi-tracker, Hard-wired Target lock, TL Missile Pod, Plasma Rifle)

Elite 1 Crisis Bodyguard 83 pts (Hard-wired Multi-tracker, Hard-wired Target lock, TL Missile Pod, Plasma Rifle)
Elite 1 Crisis Battle-suit, 47 pts (Flamer, Twin Linked Missile Pod)
Elite 1 Crisis Battle-suit, 47 pts (Flamer, Twin Linked Missile Pod)

Troops 6 Fire Warrior, 145 pts
1 Devilfish (Disruption Pod)

Troops 6 Fire Warrior, 145 pts
1 Devilfish (Disruption Pod)

Heavy 1 Hammerhead 135 (Ion Cannon, Disruption Pod, Multi tracker)

Heavy 1 Hammerhead 155 (Railgun, Disruption Pod, Multi tracker)

Fast 1 Piranha Light Skimmer, 75 pts (Disruption Pod, Targeting Array, Fusion Blaster)

Fast 1 Piranha Light Skimmer, 75 pts (Disruption Pod, Targeting Array, Fusion Blaster)

1005 points

I would really appreciated to get some feedback, tips or pointers from you guys.

nice start however in my experience this is what i would suggest.

- if you are trying to use crisis suits dont use body guards unless you fill all 3 elite slots (9 suits; 3 in each slot) not worth the extra cost.

- only take 1 hammerhead, try to fit in 2 broadside battlesuits, their railguns are more reliable.

- the pirahnas are good at hit and runs but i dont see them being extremely effective in 1k games, they will take out the tanks(what little their are) i would suggest taking both out and adding in another troop choice, your hammerhead and broadsides(if you get them) will be plenty to take out any and all tanks.

-i would suggest a list like this:

HQ: keep what you have

Elites: keep how they are as well(no body guard), but make a single unit to attach HQ.

Troops: just add in another identical unit that you have.

Fast: Drop both

Heavy: Keep HammerHead, Add 2 Broadsides in different units to spread out fire.

Cygnar/Mercs: 358 Points

Thanx a lot for the info!

I looked up a 2K list of you, and I was wondering why you don't use bonding knifes on units who pack drones? And why you don't use "Advance stabilization system" for your broadsides?

Because I think it is cool to fill the last couple of points with a few drones attached to some suits.

Cheers

Looks fine, but you don't need a target lock. His one bodyguard has one, so he doesn't need one. Capiche?

Bodyguards are more expensive than your standard crisis suits, so I would make him a normal crisis suit.

I feel like TL Missile Pods are over-rated... I would suggest changing your two crisis suits to:
Burst Cannon/Missile Pod/Multi-Tracker
-50 Pts.

Looks absolutely fine, I wouldn't change your troops at all.

Eehh... ion cannons are ok, but I prefer railguns. Also, you are required to give your hammerheads either burst cannons or SMS. I would give each of the burst cannons and target locks:
Hammerhead (Railgun/Disruption Pods/Multi-Tracker/Burst Cannons/Target Lock)
170 Pts.
Hammerhead (Railgun, Disruption Pods, Multi-Tracker, Burst Cannons, Target Lock)
170 Pts.

Piranhas are one of the weaker Tau units, and at low points they really aren't that great. I'd suggest getting rid of the two, and possibly getting some more crisis suits

Thanx again for the info!

After looking at one of your lists I came with the idea to put some Pathfinder in my army to. Apart from them being cool I love the marker lights idea, and I think I don’t need any broadsides when I can up my Hammerheads BS and remove enemies cover.

At the start of the match I will use the scout rule to move my scouts up the field, and then my Fire Warriors can take there Devilfish

could you tell me if i want to bring in any seeker missiles, if i would run 8 marker lights?

Broadsides vs hammerhead is a debate that's been going on for a while. I would recommend not putting all of your eggs in one basket. I like to run 1 hammerhead and 1 or 2 broadsides as they have different strengths and weaknesses.

I usually don't take seeker missiles... but they can be fun on occasion. In this list, I wouldn't suggest taking any. You'll need the points for other units.

Usually people will put seekers on piranhas. Turn 1, the piranhas will zoom 24" behind enemy vehicles, and then pathfinders will send the seekers at the juicy rear armor of vehicles... but I doubt there will be enough enemy armor at this point level to justify it.
