Say Zogwort turns Trazyn into a squig. Does Trazyn get his surrogate hosts roll when he is turned into a squig or when the squig he is turned into gets killed?

That is a very good question. I think I'd rule that he rolls for surrogate hosts when he becomes a squig, as killing someone in that fashion removes them as a casualty. The squig would be created as normal and would function normally in all respects.

If someone can quote some lines and give us some authority on the issue, that'd be great, but this my initial reaction.

No it doesn't. The exact wording: "...If the Ork player scores higher, the target model is replaced by an angry Squig under the control of your opponent."

The model is not removed as a casualty, it is replaced, there's quite a distinct difference.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Great question, I never actually thought of how that might work, but I think Avatar beat me to the punch. Turning Trazyn into a squig doesn't kill him, it just transforms him.

Isn't that kind of what Necrons were looking for all along; "Apotheosis"?

But he's still being taken off the table, that's what makes me wonder.
Looking closer at Zogwort's curse, it says the squig the model turns into has "no wargear and special rules" so it seems Trazyn takes his roll when he is taken off the table, or not at all.

Trazyn is not taken off the table, he is still there, he is just now a squig. The model is replaced, but the unit's profile and special rules are changed.

He's just been changed. It's probably the same deal for turning him into a Chaos Spawn.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Actually, all the Spawn abilities specify remove as a casualty. Squigging him is probably closer to Orikan Empowered with a model swap than Gift of Chaos.

Sorry about the casualty bit. I was thinking of it in terms of the chaos spawn ability and assumed they were the same. I should have checked.

I guess I really don't know. I think my original interpretation is a good one, but I'm not sure that it's RAW anymore. Sorry

He turns into a squig and does not get to roll - even if the squig dies. Does Surrogate Hosts work if he's just removed from play?

Nope, just removed as a casualty

So JotWW and a few other abilities would skip it as well. Cool.

I don't see him as being a very common choice, but it's nice to know that my shattershards will get the job done the first time.

Please post pic. I wanna see necro-squig...

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

I'll see if i can find the dusty box he lives in, along with Nightbringersquig, Decieversquig and Ghazsquig.

I've not used him in a ridiculously long time.

I'll post pics when i dig them up
