I have 3 lists for a beginner tourney that i wonder which would be best:
List 1~
Hq: Chapter master in Terminator armor w/ 2x claws
-Honor Guard x4 , chapter champion

Troop:
Tac squad in rhino w/ flamer, missile launcher, melta bombs
Tac squad in drop pod w/ flamer , multi-melta, Sarge w/ power weapon and melta bombs

Elites:
Dreadnought in drop pod w/ assault cannon, heavy flamer
Dreadnought w/ multimelta , storm bolter

Heavy Support:
Devastator squad w/ 2x missile, heavy bolter, lascannon
Land Raider


List 2~
HQ:
Chaplain w/ jump pack

Troops:
tac squad in rhino w/ flamer, missile, Sarge with power weapon, melta bombs
tac squad in drop pod w/ flamer, multi-melta, Sarge with power weapon, melta bombs
scout squad (only put in to infiltrate a teleport homer) w/ 3x combat blades, 2x shotguns , teleport homer

Elite:
Dreadnought w/ heavy flamer, assault cannon in drop pod, locator beacon
Terminator squad w/ 2x chainfists, heavy flamer
Terminator squad w/ 2x chainfists, assault cannon

Fast attack:
Assault marines x10 w/ flamer

List 3~
HQ:
Belial w/ 2x claws

Troop:
Deathwing squad w/ 2x claws, chainfist, assault cannon, Sarge with chainfist
Deathwing squad w/ 2x chainfist, assault cannon
Deathwing squad w/ 2x chainfists, cyclone

Elite:
Dreadnought w/ heavy flamer, assault cannon in drop pod
Dreadnought w/ multi-melta, storm bolter in drop pod

Fast Attack:
Assault marines x9, sarge with power weapon, melta bombs

All the lists have problems, here have a symbol to make you feel good. I say List 1 is best.

Are all three armies painted the same colour scheme. Dropped the drop pods and the assault squad then you may be ok. I think if you replaced them with a 3 missile and 1 lascannon expensive DA dev. squad or more towards the points cost you landraider you would have a reasonable force.

The drop pods ensure that i can get the dreadnoughts across the board as this probably will be a transport heavy tournament. As to the assault squad, i would be willing to replace that with devs, however the point of the deathwing list is to get in their face and throw them off kilter.

List 2 is the better one of the normal Space Marine lists, tbh, and sorry to sound rude, but I wouldn't bother with the first list.

The second list I would drop the power weapon from the sgts as they are not that awesome in combat. I would also get more Pods or none at all. Reason is half your Pods come down first turn, in this case it will be one and will be unsupported.

Not rude at all, i agree. However Mercer, how do you compare the deathwing list to list # 2?
As to the drop pods, I agree, however i do not have the money atm. Depending on the type of mission, I might just drop the pod on an objective.

@mercer: I think you overestimate the second list. Assault squad and chaplain is worse than even an honour guard and chapter master.

Drop pods for DA are expensive and not that great. Moreover you need as many models as you can on the board. Yes, dev. squads do not fit into deathwing, neither do assault squads but dev. squads can actually kills things. You should be looking for a slow, strong slog across the board as you shoot things up - you need to be careful not be outmanoeuvred by advancing units without support.

Hmmmm all valid points. What about running a mostly CC list like this:
Shrike

Scout squad (10 man) w/ 7x combat blades, 3x shotguns , Tele homer
Tac squad (10 man) w/ flamer, missile
Tac squad (10 man) in DP w/ flamer, multi-melta


Dreadnought in DP w/ multi-melta, SB
Dreadnought in DP w/ assault cannon, heavy flamer
Terminator squad w/ heavy flamer, 2x chainfists

Assault squad (10 man) w/ 2x flamers, power weapon, melta bombs

In theory, shrike would infiltrate with like the assault squad as well as having the scouts infiltrate. Turn 1, DP comes in behind enemy lines, wrecks transport. Shrikes group uses fleet and assaults turn 1. Turn 2 or whenever, the other deep striking things come in, they come in on the other DP's or the scouts. The tac squad that entered on foot? They just run and maybe get into fleet range.

This fourth list.

Take all 10 termies in one squad with shrike.(drop something to afford this, maybe the assault squad?)
Take meltabombs with the scout squad, you need to pretend that you will charge a tank with this unit in the first turn.
How about melta and combimelta for the drop pod?

Otherwise I think this list could work really well. Though every list seems very much different, this one seems to be the most coherent.

I cannot comment on Deathwing as I do not play them, so I cannot really comment, sorry man.

Assault Squad and Chaplain is loads better than Honour Guard and Chapter Master, and probably about the same points. Assault Squad is going to get more attacks, get into combat easier and re-roll to hit. All Honour Guard get is relic blades if I remember right.

The fourth list is what i see fit, if i can buy the needed models in time i will play it. Otherwise, might have to make some minor changes.
