Hi, I have been thinking about collecting necrons for a long time now and now that there is a new codex out, I want to start. I have researched necron tactics, rules unit types ect. For instance warriors are quite good at shooting but fail at close combat. There’s an 'ill be back' special rule meaning necrons can reanimate if they are destroyed. Deathmarks do have a special rule where you can chose one of the opponents squads and can roll to hit on a 2+. Anyway, here are the sets which I am thinking of buying; 1x Lychguard 2x Deathmarks (I am thinking of buying these because I really want to take advantage of the 2+ hit special rule) 3x warriors 1x Ghost Ark 1x Annihilation Barge Here is the army list; HQ necron overlord (Overlord from Annihilation Barge set) Elites 5 Lychguard 5 Deathmarks 5 Deathmarks Troops 10 warriors 10 warriors 10 Immortals (converted from 10 warriors using the arms from Deathmarks box) Dedicated Transports Ghost Ark Heavy support Annihilation Barge fast attack 9 scarb swarms C&C needed. Forgive me if the slots are wrong I currently don’t own a codex. and rember for the Necrontyr! HAZZER

Your AT power there seems to be rather lacking against anything but low AV vehicles. You can rely on gauss fire to take down anything within your extremely limited range on the warriors/immortals but outside of about 24 inches you'll be hammered by heavy mech forces.
I'd suggest dropping 5 of the death marks and putting a scarab swarm in for some fast attack. Or even dropping out the Triarch's instead (nice models, kinda meh rules) and grabbing a doomsday ark and some scarabs.

I'd agree with runmymouth on the praetorians, for the same cost (points and $$) you could get Lychguard to accompany your Lord, given that unless he's got phaeron he's next to useless on his own/attatched to a ranged unit.
Ofcourse if you're attatched to them for a fluffy reason then its your choice. Love the fluff on them but rules are very meh for the points cost.

I chose them cause I thought they are good at close combat and look good. Not really sure may jsu ask for codex at christmas and ask for money them buy the army in January sales. (Online in mean thats if they have them).

Praetorians are ok at close combat but with a low init and high points cost they may end up getting stomped by any dedicated combat unit (being jump infantry gives them a little extra survivability movementwise)
Lychguard can take either a warscythe (high strength power weapon, can punch through most vehicles) or a power weapon/shield combo that makes for a great defensive wall (and the ability to ricochet shots back at the enemy, invulnerable saves)

Ok thanks... changed to Lychguard plus they can accompany your HQ too?

Deathmarks aren't good, perhaps they'll get good in 6th eddition. Even with the 2+ to wound they aren't going to kill much with AP5.
Better off taking something else in your elite choices like Wraiths or Stalkers.
I think you need to rethink your elite choices completely and get some more AT.

I think #snif sniff# GW have tanken away Wraiths #sniff sniff#. Or they are coming out in finecast. But better yet they should come out in plastic! woot woot! What others could I take? HAZZER

Wraiths should be getting a plastic kit with the second wave of Necron releases (rumour has it feb/march next year)
Triarch Stalker is coming out in the same release, its a walker with a nifty heat ray and the ability to make shooting at its target twin linked.
Other than that Destroyers can make good AT (heavy destroyers more so but they're relatively high cost)
Crypteks are a good source of AT and the royal court can be split off to join existing units, adding a little extra punch to your troops.

To be quite honest I don't really understand Crypteks that much. What are they?

Just a word of advice, you should probably buy the codex before you do any serious planning of your army. I wouldn't buy a model just based off what you hear from other people, read the rules yourself then make the call of whether or not you want to pay the points and cash to include them in your army.

Crypteks form a royal court around your Overlord, you can take between 0 and 5 of them.
Each cryptek can be upgraded to a certain"discipline" which gives them an upgraded weapon and access to specialised wargear. Some of these weapons act as good AT (one is strength 8 and a good range, ones a short range haywire equivalent etc)
Individual models can then be attatched to certain units.

Thank's a lot that helps.

They aren't ap5, they are sniper rifles. Str X, meaning they wound on 4+ on the non marked target and they rend. 24" rapid fire is meh but at the same time they really can blow something up. They also have rending as it is a sniper rifle.
