Boosting Space Marine Biker

Okay, so I have limited resources. I just got back into the game after 10 years of not playing, and I've only bought two items: the rule book and the Space Marines Codex. My next purchases will only be bits and paints to complete what I have rather than to buy more items, so I can only field stuff based on what I already have. this is for friendly games at my local store which I just found. I haven't played since 3rd edition and am still getting used to 5th edition rules, so some advice/help is appreciated. Here's the list:
HQ:
Space Marine Captain
-Jump Pack, Power Sword, Artificer Armor, bolt pistol
Librarian
-Bolt Pistol, Force Weapon, Smite, Gate of Infinity
Elite:
Dreadnought
-twin linked lascannons
Troops:
Tactical Squad
-10 man, 1 Missile Launcher, 1 flamer, Sarge w/ Pistol/Chainsword
Tacitcal Squad
-5 man, Sarge w/ Pistol/Chainsword
Fast Attack:
Assault Squad
-5 man, 1 plasma pistol, Sarge w/ Power fist & bolt Pistol
Heavy Weapons:
Devastator Squad
-6 man, 2 lascannons, 2 Missile Launcher, Sarge w/ bolter
By my count, that works out to 996 points. The only other stuff I have that I can field is:
3 man Biker squad, all standard
5 man terminator squad, all standard
Predator Tank (old style, pretty sure not allowed to use anymore because it's too small) w/ twin-linked lascannon turret and lascannon side sponsons, all glued (whoops)
Vindicator Tank (very old style, made for imperial guard, no siege shield, not sure if I can use it)
More tactical marines (I think I have 25 models of these in total)

In a 1000pts game you really only need the one HQ. I'd stick with the Libby and for powers nullzone is usually pretty effective and popular.
By dropping the HQ you should be able to bump up the tactical squad to 10 and give them the ever needed transport. Since it's friendly games I don't think your competitors will mind if you proxy the rhinos with your two tanks.

Okay. I'll look into that. I was just thinking the Captain could join up with the assault squad and tie up units that need to be dealt with, and since I didn't want my entire HQ to be taken out should he die (and he most likely will) so I included a Librarian. I guess I was going more for rule of cool than practical.
I'm not sure null zone would be too useful as not many people at the store field units with invulnerable saves.

It is all about transportation and tanks nowadays. Get yourself some rhinos, drop pods and/or razorbacks.
At this points cost your army will always be disjointed as marines are too pricey. So I will point out minor improvements.
sargs are better with bolter and bolt pistol rather than the sword.
Lascannons are cheaper on the tac. squad which would concentrate the dev. squad.
Assault squads are plain bad, though with a captain they may hold their own. Can I suggest some meltabombs? If you have a choice between troops or a tank, assault squads will struggle with the troops whereas with meltabombs they may take out a tank.
Hope you enjoy the new rules, they are better. Have fun with the bed time reading

depends on what you are against. what army is that meant for to beat.

Most likely I'll be playing versus Mechanized Imperial Guard (guy loves his Chimeras and Leman Russes). That or Tyranids.
I know I need transports now. Before I was under the impression they weren't worth their points cost, but now that they're only 35 points it's kind of ridiculous, especially given how rare it is for Space Marines to die in them should something happen.
Are assault squads really that bad? That stinks. Should I just field the terminator Squad and transports (using my tanks as proxies) instead of the Captain and Assault Squad?
