Hey guys, I'm a pretty long time player of advanced squad leader but recently I've been seeing a lot of people playing flames of war. I was curious about the game, but heard that the rules are a *bit* light. I was wondering if ASL rules could be adapted to use flames of war minis.

In theory there's no reason why you couldn't run ASL with FoW minis - or any 15mm minis for that matter.

One thing to keep in mind, though, is that when Deluxe ASL was released (which was specifically designed to accomodate miniatures, albeit on a hex board), it was designed with Micro-Armor scale figures in mind. So it would require more room than the old Deluxe ASL rules used. The primary issue is always going to be giving yourself enough table space to play in.

Also keep in mind that in Flames of War, guns and their crews are an integrated base. Additionally, vehicle crews never appear on the table. So you'll need to get the additional bases and figures that you need for those specific ASL counters.

yeah it probably wouldn't work with the deluxe asl boards. But I'd be more interested in modifying the ASL rules so that you didn't require a hex board.

The rules for FoW are a "bit" light compared to ASL. That is one of the primary reasons I play FoW today, but not ASL anymore. Got tired of those marathon really painful long time headache inducing games. It just stopped being fun for me. I started my gaming life on Panzer Leader/Blitz and the original Squad Leader and moved on to ASL eventually. Just something to be said for being able to "play" the game instead of "working" the game as often happened in ASL.

If you want to use your ASL map boards I would recommend something closer to a microarmor scale of minis instead. If you just want to use the rules, I can't see why you can't adapt the ASL rules to use 15mm minis. If it makes you happy, nothing is stopping you from doing it. You just need to find other gamers who that makes happy as well.
