Okay, so I'm just getting back into 40k and haven't played in 10 years. 3rd edition was the last one I played. So I'm trying to bring my army up to date and there are several things that need doing. I've already read the sticky on how to strip the pant from my old models so that's fine (I was around 10 or so when I painted them originally and it's gakky and even some oil-based paint). Anyway I have the following questions:

What bases do Space Marine Bikers currently use, and where can I find them as bits? What search on e-bay would find them? Are these bases tournament standard or are the rounded ones standard?

My terminators are the old style that are on standard 25mm bases. Not only that, some are plastic and some are metal, but they all have their feet joined together with a rectangle that is glued into a slot on the base. What's the best way to remove their current base, remove the plastic or metal thing connecting their feet, and then re-base them onto a standard 40mm base?

I live in Atlanta GA and want to buy my own paint set for as cheap as I can yet as good as I can. I want lots of paints, some washes, and spray-on primer, and I'll need brushes. What store can I go to and expect to find it, and how much will it cost me? I know I should use acrylics, and that I can make my own washes with 1 part acrylic paint, 4 parts water, and 1 part alcohol, but what kind of alcohol should I use and where should I get it?

Finally, what's the best and cheap way to transport my army?

HIDING IN METAL BAWKSES!

For the Termie bases, switching to a 40mm is not needed. I think it even says it in the BRB somewhere.

For the army transport, Battlefoam makes really good cases, but they are not all that cheap, though they will last a while.

These guys make good looking custom cut trays and cases for reasonable prices...Don't know if they ship to or are situated in the US...but they're worth a look ^^

Erm, which edition?

Neither WHFB nor 40k have yet to have a 10th edition. WHFB is in 8th ed and 40k is in 5th ed.

As for bases, you do NOT have to rebase them for the current game rules by the rulebook (if they were on 25mm bases back then, then you can STILL use them as such).
SOME stores and tourneys might have a rule where you have to have them on current bases, but that is their own "house rule" for their own events.

Bikers can be based on the new pill bases or the old cavalry bases (some of my SM bikers are original metal RT black shadow and RTB001 riders on cavalry bases, others are plastic bikers (3rd ed) on cavalry bases.

As for best v cheap cases/transport. There are tradeoffs you have to make here. Often, higher protection=higher cost. The main consideration is where do you need to travel with them and how much do you want them protected? My advice is the same for anything else. Buy the best you can afford.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

Sorry, 3rd edition. Not 10th.

That's good to know about the terminator bases. Having to re-base them would be a PITA.

Thanks Lazzarus, that's a nice case for $37 USD shipped. It should carry everything I need. It might not be as cheap as going to Wal-Mart and using regular stuff, but I like that it seems almost as heavy duty as the GW cases, at least the foam parts.

So what about the bases in my link? Are they the standard size? Can I use them in tournament play? My FLGS is extremely lax, but if I'm going to do something I like to do it right.

I would even say that the bikes don't need bases. They didn't come with any when I bought mine
