So my friend and his brother were fighting about that ''insta-kill'' my friends weapons AP was 2 and hes bro's AS 3 so does that make it kill his tyranid (which haves 4 wounds) or just give wound?

Orkses never lose a battle. If we win we win. If we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we come back for annuver go, see!

Depends, what was the strength (of the weapon) and toughness (of the tyrand)?

I'm going to assume some things here

I am going to assume that the AP2 weapon is a plasma gun which has a strength of 7.

I am going to assume that the 4 wound tyranid model with a 3+ armor save has a toughness of 4 and has no invunerable save.

You roll for hits and wounds as normal with the plasma gun

You score one wound on the tyranid.

The tyranid model with the 3+ armor save does not get to take an armor save because the plasma is AP2.

The tyranid model takes 1 wound.

Note that AP only effects the ability of a model to take its armor save, it has nothing to do with instant kills.

Now, lets assume a different situation.

Lets say that the AP2 weapon was a meltagun with a strength of 8

you wound the tryanid again.

The tyranid does not get an armor save since the melta is AP2, the tyranid is "instantkilled" because the strength of the melta is twice the toughness of the tyranid.

Look up the instant killed bit in the rulebook.

It says something like,

When a model suffers an unsaved wound from an attack whose strength is twice its toughness it is instant killed, even if it is a multiple wound model.

Again i was paraphraseing, see te rulebook for the full thing.

AP has nothing to do with instant death, absolutely nothing.

Force Weapons (activated of course), strength that is double the toughness of the model or any special rules saying remove as a casualty or remove from play are the most common "insta-kill" weapons.

As Nos said, AP will not affect ID, simply negates saves.

If a unit suffers a wound (after all saves have been taken, if applicable) and the strength of the weapon is double the toughness of the target that revived the wound then the unit is dead, regardless of the amount of wounds (unless he has eternal warrior)
