Alright dakkadakka,

I am planning on making a Brother Captain HQ for my Grey Knights army. I want to equip him with a psycannon as he was originally a purgation squad member before attaining the rank of Captain. He still chooses to wield the Psycannon, a weapon he has always had a natural affinity for and skill with (as a result of his heritage?). So here is a poll with three options, and I will go with the one that has the most votes. Oh, and the skin color will reflect if he is from the salamanders

I think you are confused about where the GKs get their recruits.

They arn't marines from other chapters, thats the Deathwatch.


Gks get their initiates from the Black Ships or from initiates given to them by chapters with close ties(note: they are given over immediatly and are never indoctrinated into the chapter in question)

True, but assuming he was a salamanders recruit/ initiate, the salamanders would still be giving him up right? I didn't mean he was a fully indoctrinated Salamander
As to the skin coloration, isn't that a defect caused by the radiation of the home planet causeing a reaction with the gene seed as apposed to a mutation within the gene seed? SO its plausible that the gene seed the Grey Knights gave this Captain would still cause the skin color change retroactively? If im wrong on the fluff here please correct me.

Im not talking african black, im talking ebony black like the salamanders have. I dont understand all the " " that I am getting. Im not a fanboy trying to turn my grey knights into "salamander psyker squads." I just had an idea for a jet black skinned Grey Knight from Vulcan who has an affinity for heavy weapons. If its not possible/plausible from a fluff perspective that's fine, but rather than working with me and trying to offer up good suggestions, Im getting comment sniped and treated like a petulant moronic child

That will be impossable with the current fluff, because the Salamander's black skin is caused by their geneseed. The people of Nocturne are white.

Ok, Thank you! Would you have any recommendations or suggestions for his origins? Im hoping for a planet that is known for stocky, hardy individuals so I can tie that in to why he has always had a natural skill and preference for heavy weapons.

Make a planet up, thats the best solution.

They must do.
They are one of the original legions.
The SW know about them and they are probably the worst people to tell a secret.
A fair amount of other chapter (Silver skulls for example) also know and they aren't a 1st founding chapter.

During the 2nd founding when they were made it was the Emprah and some of the loyalists from the traitor legions during the tail end of the HH that made the GK. Then they hid Titan till the chapter was 1k strong bwfore coming back. I know bout the sw deal but codexes otherwise i think itd be hard to keep a secret like that.

The fluff doesn't say that the Legions didn't know about them afterwards... or found out later on...

Just paint his skin black if you want it that way. When people ask why say "Cause I felt like it". /conversation. Thats really all you need.

There are quite a few Space Marine chapters who know about the GKs, especially those who often have dealings with them.

The Marines do keep it a secret though, they don't talk about them much and never with outsiders.

Unfortunately discussing a topic with Draigo is like beating your head into the wall. The wall doesn't budge and you will have a headache. I would imagine, from what the Grey Knights codex now intimates, it is quite likely that at the very least every chapters grand master, master, lord what have you, is well aware of the grey knights existence. Its only the uppermost echelons of command or government in the Imperium who know of them. With the rare lucky (unlucky?) individual who is the exception.

As has been mentioned, the Grey Knights would recruit their own marines, and not go through existing chapters. I'd make up another planet for your dark skinned hero. Or, just put a helmet on him and be done with it.
