Hi there,

I started building my second army: Tyranids. Now that I have about 2K points of Ultramarines I wanted to do something else for a change.
I wanted to start out small because I have only played a couple of battles yet.

Below is my 1.000 points list I have now.

So my list:

1: 5 Tyranid warriors, 1 Tyranid prime (Tyranid warriors have deathspitters and scything talons, prima has a deathspitter and some addons like regeneration).
2: 2 Hive Guards
3: 20 genestealers, 1 broodlord, genestelers with rending claws, broodlord with scything talons
4: 4 ripper swarms
5: 20 Hormagaunts
6: 20 Termagaunts

In terms of hobby this time around I decided to build everything, base everything (next step coat) first. Then I will paint it in steps for all the models at once.
I really found it frustrating with my Ultra's that I did handful of models at a time which was so slow and never gave me a full painted force ready to go quickly
Also, Im going for a ultra over the top jungle style, so lots of brightly colored foliage and shrubbery

First color test for my painting scheme :

Ait! thats it!

Hi now that I got the base of my army I bought the following today:

Trygon box
Hive Tyrant (HQ)
Zoanthrope (to be converted into a Doom of Malan'tai)

For the Trygon I can upgrade him to a prime for 40 points, is this worth the investment? Im a totally new player so I can't really see what is worth extra points or not.
Any advise from Tyranid players?

Thanks!

Chris

Upgrading the Trygon to a Prime is defiantly worth it, adds another syanapse creature to your army and upgrades his gun

I do enjoy the list, jst a few things to make it way better, drop the ripper swarms and take those points and invest them into toxin sacs for those hormagaunts, that will make them way more versitile, also get a trygon prime in your army, they are just too baller.

Me: OK (sets down Tyranid, drives to store and picks up Legion of Everblight)
Me: the more things change....

Venomthropes give your amry cover whilst advancing and are some of the coolest models out there. The Trygon Prime is definitely worth it. If you can do it the best setup for the Tyranid Prime is:

Lash Whip/Bonesword
Scything Talons
Toxin Sacs
= 105pts to re-roll ones to hit in combat, re-roll wounds when enemy toughness is 5 or below and obviously the Lash Whip/Bonesword combo.

Hi all,

thanks for the tips. I'll make the Trygon into a Prime then I think after I've recalculated my list. Dropping the ripper swarms is no problem, I just like the way they look
I will have to play a few battles to understand how Tyranids work, so far I've only played with Ultramarines which I really like, but this will be very different I assume.
Right now its hard to envision what toxin sacs and all those funky things will do

thanks!
