So I got a Cadian Battleforce from my girlfriend as a present, and suddenly I'm an Imperial Guardsman! So I figured that before I went out and bought a few hundred dollars of IG and then find out I couldn't beat a paper bag I thought I'd post my plans for a 1000 point army before I bought the pieces. She got me IG because I said I wanted lots and lots of tanks, so mech seems like my clear choice, but I want to make sure I understand Vet/Mech and have put together an army that has a fair chance of winning in any circumstance. So without further ado, my first attempt at building a vet/mech list for 1000 points.

Looks pretty good, hoever the Flamer is very out of place in the first Vet Squad. That unit will be shooting at tanks, and the Flamer is useless there.

Also, this may just be me, but I've never had much luck with the Armored Sentinel, they are just too flimsy to do anything but Out Flank. So I would replace it with a Scout Sentinel armed with either an Autocannon or Lascannon for some extra vehicle popping goodness.

This next part really is 100% preference, but I find it is better to take a Heavy Bolter on your Russes, because your allowed to shoot two weapons and still move with the LRBT, and the Heavy Flamer doesn't come into play until you are /way/ closer than you want to be.With the Heavy Bolter, you have multiple turns of shooting before the Heavy Flamer would ever be used. Just my honest opinion.

Other than those little changes (which may just be my style and have no relevance to you - except for the flamer in the Vet Squad), you have a pretty good list to start out with.

Good Luck, hope this helped.

I agree 100% with the last post. Armored sentinel is meh and the flamer is out of place. Other than that it looks pretty good.

Just my 2 cents

The flamer was only on that squad because I needed the extra five points, I'd rather have another melta but I feel that it was the most efficient place to ditch the 5 points. I think I'll leave the sentinel as is until I get a chance to play test it, if it's not doing well for me then I might switch around it's type and armament.

Yes, the flamer is way out of place, but, hey, if you have five points laying around, why not, but, a grenade launcher would be better, a strength 6 krak grenade might be able to take some tanks out.

I like armoured sentinels. I use three at 2500 points and 2000 points. However, if you have the extra models around, drop the armoured sentinel and flamer, thats 80 points. replace with two scout sentinels with autocannons. outflanking strength 7 realy helps out.
