I am about to trade my IG off and I was wondering what Dakka thinks is this a crazy shift in armies? I figure that playing my IG I can't help but get competitive and I only started playing again for fun, you think this is the right choice?

You can have a fun army with IG.
It's almost always going to be a strong army however...
Not uber-competetive but not a pushover.

Orks are a solid army, but are considered less then competitive compared to newer armies. The orks are a definate shift from IG, more assaulty, less shooting. The best builds I have seen are max boys ( 60 in a 1000pts).

Obviously orks you zoggin' zog! Why else would you have your post rankings set to "orks"?

They aren't realy facists...
Considering the general situation they are surprisingly liberal...
Though it does shift from place to place.

I could see what your saying but with the Commissars executing who they want and such, Authoritarian would probably fit better in there.

IG are one of the 3 top armies...
They are fairly easy to play right... unless you start chargin your infantry squads at the enemy piecemeal...

Oh don't get me wrong I have never had a problem with my Ig I have been playing Ig the whole time I have been playing 40k which is ten years now. I guess thats why I am in need of a change.

Then go for Orks...

Both have a fairly different feel.

You want something that wont be super competetive but fun? Stay far far away from DE. Try BT or CSM

I think you'll find that Purple is the superior colour.
However Orange is an acceptable second place.

Ork and guard are both competitive armies. Both require lots of models, and even play in similar styles.

The only real difference, other than aesthetics, is that orks are more straightforward to play. Their codex basically bashes you over the head with how the different units work, and if you just follow what the codex tells you, you will likely play with at least a reasonably effective style. Guard units have more options, and there are certainly more ways to build a bad guard list than a bad ork list.

Of course, you can easily get good with either. It really comes down more to aesthetics.
