Hypothetical situation since it's a simplified version of what happened at an earlier game:
A unit with one model in power armour and an independant charector in terminator armour take some wounds, two with no AP and two from a power weapon.
Is the player allowed to allocate the two power weapon wounds against the model in power armour, and give the two 0AP ones to the model in terminator armour, killing the power armour model but giving the IC terminator 2 2+ saves?
Cheers.

Actually, it's no. These are apparently close combat wounds (see power weapon) and can only be allocated to the 'unit' that was attacked. Since the IC is a separate unit from the model in power armor, each can only take the wounds from the attacks targeting them.
Now if it were shooting with 2 x wounds from lasguns and 2 x wounds from plasma, sure. But in close combat, no.

I was wrong in my decription, it WAS two ranged weapons. My apologies, and thanks for the replies.

As you said it was a shooting attack, yes. Perfectly legal.
Step 1) Allocate the schmuck an armor ignoring wound
Step 2) Allocate the termy a 'regular' wound.
Step 3 and 4) Repeat the above

Wound allocation doesn't care about the type of wound being inflicted. Strength, AP, Instant Death are all completely irrelevant for this process... All that matters is the number of wounds.
You distribute the wounds evenly through the unit. How you distribute the different types of wounds is entirely up to you, so long as each model receives their fair share.

here's a similar question. If I do X number of wounds to a squad that has several types of unit. I believe in this case it was a fully upgraded grey hunter squad. I got within range of it with my burna wagon and inflicted 22 wounds.
he has 6 guys in it.(for example, don't remember real number)
he allocates 3 on each guy and sets aside the last 4 dice.
after 4 guys are killed he stacks the 4 (extra) wounds on the already dead models.
Is this how you do it? it seemed kind of shady to me but we were playing apocalypse so in a hurry and didn't want to make a stink. Especially after i moved my battlewagon 7 inches and shot it then he assaulted me and I informed him that it he had still had to hit me on 6's.

You allocated ALL wounds. Then you roll saves for like models.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

That last instance sounds really shady to me. All wounds need to be allocated before any rolls are made.

Nope. 22/6 = 3 with remainder 4. So 2 models would have 3 wounds allocated to them and 4 models would have 4 wounds allocated to them. (4*4+3*2 = 22)
Then you roll for saves by groups of identical models.

I thought that instant death shots have to be allocated and done before all else though, or was that fourth edition.
It mentioned something about if you have Nob bodyguards and a warboss and got shot with a melta and some bolter fire you have to resolve the melta death than stack all other wound on the remaining models.

Not quite. All the shots are allocated at the same time. But the ID casualties for each group of identical models are removed first before moving on to the rest of them non- ID wounds.

Allocation doesnt care one jot about the type of wound, just that you have a wound. Allocation requries you to evenly spread out wounds amongst the models of the unit. Thats it.
Instant Death comes into play when removing casualties
Nothing you said relates to the actual rules

I agree with Nosferatu. Normally, as wounds pile up, I grab a d6 for each wound assigned. I will grab a different color for each type of save required (usually 2 - regular save / no save). So, once he is done wounding, I have a stack of dice I can allocate as I see fit. The reds ones are usually for instant death / no saves. I then allocate out as I see fit and then start rolling.
This means you can stack all of your red dice (i.e. no saves) on one model / group of models - provided the overall amount of saves is evenly distributed. Yes, I know this is simple and primitive and can easily be solved by arithmetic, however I find it cuts down on errors.
