Noise Marine Terminator with Sonic Blaster

I was thinking about this today looking at one of my old army cases, that is currently empty because I traded my Ork army away for a Dark Eldar army. Now I'm not going to say I want anything back, I'm overtly happy with what I got. But since I've been in this hobby since 2000 I was wondering what has happened to my old stuff, and wondering if anyone shared similiar thoughts of nostaligia. For example I started 40K with an Eldar army, It was the army I cut my painting teeth on, and without a doubt was fun to play, even if I lost alot with it. That said when the owner of the Warzone store in Gastonia wanted it, I was building a Chaos army and he gave me an offer no sane person could refuse (and this was after several offers to outright buy it that I refused). And thus my Red Corsairs almost came together over night. It was close to 2000 points unpainted unbuilt Chaos for a painted 1850ish Eldar army. And then I had a Tyranid army painted in chesnut ink and black chitin, with white 'skunk' stripes, I liked it cause it was when you could have 'mutants' in the army so I had a venom cannon equipped gaunt , and other crazy things. Like hormagaunts with rippers for arms. But I sold it, because I desperatly needed money at the time, and the playing style while effective (I rarely lost with this army) it got kinda boring to play.
Anyway while I don't want anything back, I'm still wondering just what happened to these armies, Were they repainted? Resold later? Is Farseer Amuni Ro still stabbing people with his Singing Spear, with his chameleon painted Scorpion bodyguard by his side? etc. etc. And the most important part of this thread is: Does anyone else share this sentiment? And if the ultra rare chance occurs maybe swap pics of the armies now, as it's kinda like seeing what your children are up to years later after losing contact with them...or not, this is just for fun.

Sold off a Tau army (my first 40k army evar!) of about ~1500pts. I had painted two devilfishes, a hammerhead, and had probably nine crisis suits and two broadsides with 48 firewarriors. With Tau getting updated in hopefully less than a year, makes me regret *just a little* that I sold them.
But I was in university, and my Guard needed more tanks and I was liking them more anyways.
So very little regret, but only because I'm interested to see what happens to Tau when they get updated.

I wiah I hadn't sold my first army. It was chaos undivided and even though badley painted and badley made, it was my 1st army and a lot of it was birthday/christmas presents and i feel so guilty for selling them, but alas i really needed the money to get into university.
An army i cannot seem to get rid of is space marines. I have had 4. I got one with the starter set (the old one with dark eldar) Which got stolen, then I bought a dark angels army when they 1st got re released with their own combat, lost interest and sold them, i then bought the assualt on black reach for the orks and hey guess what, more marines, so after a fleet with blood angels I sold them and then 4 months later along came my current marine army of which 2000 points was just given to me for free! So i gave up not having marines and now have a marine army.

I've never sold off an army I had any real investment in. I started a Warriors of Chaos army, painted about 40 models for it, then decided I didn't have the time/money to invest in a new army, let alone a new game system at the time. 40k interests me more anyway. I've sold off a few armies that were still in the box/unpainted, but I've never sold off one of my actual armies. I figure I'll either want to come back to them someday, play with them out of nostalgia's sake, or strip them and reuse them elsewhere, which I've done.
Honestly, the short term benefits seem to be outweighed by missing whatever you sell later on. You'll seldom get your initial investment back unless you're a really great painter, or in some situations where the models are either out of production or went up significantly in price, a la Sisters of Battle or an army built around the old Juan Diaz Daemonettes.

On the contrary, I'm kind of happy I've sold some of my stuff. I poured my heart and soul into my Chaos Space Marines, Hakanor's Reavers, and knowing that they went to a good home to someone who appreciates them makes me feel good. Same with my outbound Flesh Tearers, my O&G, and Imperial Fists.
I'd like to sell off my Guard, however, yet can't bring myself to do it, because they were my first army. I painted that army while recouping from a few bad breakups, while I was still getting used to school, and when I made my first core group of friends here at school. I couldn't just give them away...yet when law school bills loom closer, I might just have to. :C

I kinda miss my old mech guard army (had 3 companies worth of guard... baneblade company, russ company, chimera mechanized company).
But It was my first army, and it was painted pretty bad, so I guess I'm glad I got rid of it, so I could move on to paint my marine army.

My first Army was Space Marines painted in Hot Rod Green...real Candy Apple. 2400 points complete in a nice Sabol case.
I miss those guys.
Of course I also miss the Plasma TV, the wifes jewelry, 2 computers, the .12 gage shotgun, and the 1911 .45 that was a gift from my dad that the MFers got when they broke into the house while we were off at work.

The New Miss Macross!

I would never sell off my first 40k army due to sentimental reasons. They're the worst painted army I've got in my collection and consists entirely of OOP vehicles (all old vehicles including metal dreads and speeder, RT rhinos/LR, etc.) and 5,000pts worth of infantry in which only a single model is plastic (the rest are 2nd/3rd edition metals). I get some weird looks for my vehicles occasionally from younger players (I even started carrying around the old Blood Angel Codex that shows my RT LR is a real GW model!) and never get any complements on the paint job as they don't deserve any... but they're my first ever wargaming army. I've sold off my most fun force (my Speed Freak Orks .. hence my username), my first IG army (also 2nd edition metals prior to the release of the current cadians), a dirt cheap ultramarines force that I got for a steal but never played, a 3rd edition chaos marine army that was never finished prior to my taking off 4th edition from 40k, and a themed Nid army that never made it out of the closet after purchase let alone out of the shrink wrap/box. I regret selling the nids a little bit as I never got to actually field them or work on the cool theme that I had bought them for but otherwise don't regret the decisions. Churn is simply a part of the hobby. If anything, I'm thinking of selling my (effectively) third marine army. I like the space wolf rules and they suit my playstyle the most but already have my 6,000pt Blood Angels and another 2,500pt doublewing Dark Angel force (painted to match the scheme of my original Blood Angels). I frankly have no interest in painting another army though and I do feel dirty fielding the spray grey legion of figs. After I get my fill of winning, they'll probably go on the chopping block.

Armies I've sold/traded over the years:
LM/ twice
Skaven/ twice
Dark elves
WoC
Night Goblins
Ogre Kingdoms
Vampire Counts/twice
FW Tau
Drop Pod SM
And I plan on selling a few more next year.
I think buying/selling/trading armies is just a part of the hobbby I enjoy, so I don't really regret selling/trading any of them.

I've traded off lots of stuff over the years, and lost things as well.
I think I've traded away 2 full armies of stuff, and in the end, I think it was worth it. As long as you're sure your stuff goes to a good home, and makes someone happy, its worth it. And trading makes it even easier. Sometimes selling makes you feel empty, because that money goes to things that aren't as memorable. So getting something in return helps fill those doubts you had.

I've never sold an army.
This is not to say I've not regretted giving away some stuff over the years (30 Harlequins - original boxes of them - to a mate, because they weren't in 3rd edition and he liked the models more than I did).
These days, the only way I could start a new 40k army is by selling or otherwise getting rid of one of the four I have (not in order to afford it, I have space limitations) - but none of the other armies (new releases or otherwise) make me like them more than what I have, so it doesn't happen.

Sell, sell, sell. I've regretted selling individual models/units that I suddenly thought of a build I needed them for later, but whole armies? No. All they do is take up space.

I've never regretted getting rid of an army until the rules changed years later, but that's just my competitive side missing an edge.
I've gotten rid of around 20 or so armies, but there are 3 that I would miss so they'll probably stay.... Forever.

Sold my Nurgle army back when business was very slow and my wife wasn't working. I had collected it since 2nd ed. and had 2 Golden Demon winning models in it.
I got good money for it at the time, but now I make twice the amount in a week. Wish I had it back, definitely.

I couldn't do it, I have every miniature I ever bought for the last 20+ years simply because I would regret it so much. Plus you never know when squats might make a come back! The closest I have come is selling some IG bits this year. It was hard as all the time I was thinking "hmmm might need those one day". This was a collection of arms, weapons and heads that I still have dozens of other copies of!

Never sold a painted army, but I did sell off the figs I had collected for an Adeptus Arbites force. I had Arbites from all 3 eras (RT, 2nd edition and Necro) and a bunch of Void junkers as well as a couple of vehicles.
Really wish I'd kept those, especially since I'm now working on a Junkers army!
Also sold an army's worth (around 100 models) of Spacelords Bunker Breakers. Really a great collection of figs and I regret it, but when logic kicks in, I realize I would never have gotten around to it.
