So what do you guys think of my Deathwing list? First attempt so any criticism is much appreciated

Belial-LC-130 pts

DW Squad-Apoth, Banner, 5x LC (goes with belial in LRC)-270
DW Squad-5x TH/SS +CML-235
DW Squad-5x TH/SS+ CML-235
DW Squad-4x SB/PF, 1x AC/PF-245

LRC-250

Total-1335

Basically Belial (put LC on him due to his higher initiative) and the LC squad with apoth and banner go into the LRC due to lack of a good invul but high amount of power weapon attacks. The TH/SS squads advance up and fire the CMLs and the pf/sb squad deepstrike via deathwing assault in an attempt to feth gak up.

I need help on what to add to get it to 1500. Not a big fan of dreads since they seem like easy targets in an army filled with terminators. Im also not sure abou those DS tactical terminators. I kind of want to give them TH/SS but im not sure, plus I dont actually have any spare ones but I do have a extra 5x LC i can throw on them if that seems like a good idea. Im considering either getting a few preds or vindicators. If preds, what loadout do you think?

1500 is a tough points limit for a DW army. I would drop the SB sqaud. This gives you alot of extra points to maybe get two Vindies or two Preds. You might even be able to get a couple of typhoons speeders. Nice long range support.

I don't like the LR so much especialy as its your only vehicle. Dreads are useful especialy with Plasma Cannons. I use 2 it spreads out the enemies fire power. Give them more armor to kill so the Terminators are safer.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

I only really went to 1500 since it was the closest normal point value. What loadout would you put on those preds?

Id go vindicators, predators may not be targeted regardless of loadout.... vindicators will take shots intended for your termies. I would also put TH/SS in every squad so they have the ability to deal with threats so the first squad at least 1 (2 or 3) th/ss with a cyclone.

By going 3 squads and dropping the 4th squad you can free up various shenanigans, including being able to add the tanks.

I didnt think that a CML in the command squad would be worth it, given that theyll be in a LRC for part of the game. So all Th/SS for the most part? Is 3 squads really enough? I feel like more termies would be better.

Well i use 3 in my 2k list and they have been enough. It really depends on your meta too. We play fluff based armies and don't worry about overly competitive lists.

I personaly take 2 TH/SS and 3 LC's with my squads. As far as the CML on the comand squad in the LR. It isn't a bad iodea to have them on there. Once you drop out you will probably not get back in. So having it helps have more fire power while getting to your next fight. That also is if you have the points.

I also like Vidies more then preds. I don't use them so I really don't know how to equip the Preds. I know alot use AC turret and Las sponsons for cheap preds. Its really your choice.

The cyclone is for opportunity shots, you wont fire every round but its nice oomph going into a MC or really anything not Missle Launcher proof.

Deathwing can be very hard to use however only 3 squads is doable. The mention of 1500 points being harsh rings true; if your going to do this army 1500 points leaves you with few points. To a degree two or three other vehicle threats like vindicators help with target priority.

A FNP termy squad will be significantly more survivable than it looks on paper though. TH/SS are the much better choice due to survive ability and sheer dakka.

With the army being difficult i highly endorse proxying the army a few times if you have never fielded all termies to see if you even want to try or to mix up what works for you.

Im mainly worried about my tau friend, all the railguns and plasma that he can bring scares me, which is why i was considerations preds instead of vindis because I can take out is railguns at a decent range hopefully.

Ill prob end up mixing it up a bit, ill probably magnetize my 4th squad to have LC or SB/PF, depending on the situation.

@Lazarian: Im not too worried about the difficulty, I mainly play with friends, so i figured id like a cheap CC army as I play mainly guard and already have these models for cheap.

Yeah Tau could be the worse army to play with all those AP1/2 weapons for sure.

How many are we talking? Does he take 3 broadsides? hammer heads with railguns?

How many suits with plasmas?

Honestly then the LR is useless. If he is running that many railguns. Its really a matter of chance and rolls.

Something to think about.

vs Tau... shoot the hammerhead til rail gun is gone and shoot at rest of army at range. You out range him, use it.

Drop LRC

You don't out range him. Railguns have 72 inch range. After that sure you can outrange him.

He hasnt really played is tau much, he mainly uses his SM and Nids against me since his tau is pretty under developed atm. I was probably going to drop the LRC if I went up against him tho.

I think he only has a hammer head and a single broadside atm as far as railguns are concerned. I meant killing his railguns from a 48' range instead of a 24" that scatters.

Sorry, my response was more for Old Man Ultramarine.

I totally understand your worry with Tau. They can through alot of firepower at you.

Firstly 1500 pts is a nice score for Deathwing, in fact most points totals deathwing can work. Dualwing it would pretty hairy.

Raiders do not work well for Deathwing armies. They reduce the number of models on the board even further, they are huge targets, they stop CMLs firing, they take up the valuable heavy slots and then they do not even make you more mobile.

All termy armies are not great, you are not bringing enough killiness to the table. I would only spend about half the points on termies. So here 3 squads would be good.

Then the squad lay outs. CMLs are too cheap not to take. If you take one in each squad, the stormbolters lose some value as they will be an after thought. So SS/TH would be the best for staying out of cc and shooting for the saves but in cc you need LCs to even the score up. This leads to something like 3 SS/TH and 2 LCs with a CML. Also I would prefer Belial with SS/TH as he can be instant killed and has a rubbish inv. save, for example a Greyknight player will kill him off before he can attack.

Then typhoons are dirt cheap and preds/vindis/dreads would make great support units to add and diversify your firepower.

Deathwing Assault is normally not a great idea. However if you are against Tau go for it. I wouldn't worry about only having CMLs firing when you land, as you will make it into cc and then you'll have your fun.
