Subject: Mindshackle Scarab Leadership Test and Ork Mob Rule

So this came up last week, and I wanted to know what you Dakkites thought about it. We agreed that the Ork being tested would have the benefit of the Mob Rule Ld up to 10 based on the precedent of the Weirdboy FAQ limiting his Ld to 10 for his Psychic tests. However, I remember playing somebody some time who insisted that whatever ability he was using was against an unmodified Ork Ld. As it was some time ago, I can't remember the army or ability, but maybe you could shed some light on the ability, as it may have an impact on helping me decide what Ld value I should use for my Orks against Mindshackle Scarabs. Thanks!

The Mindshackle Scarabs only require a Ld test on 3d6. They do not say it has to be an unmodified leadership test. An Ork in a mob of 10 or more tests at leadership 10, as that is the max value of that stat.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it. |

Besides, the LD of an ork in a big enough mob can always be switched for the Mob Rule. It's not a bonus (or a penalty if you use it in a small mob when you want to fail). Switching to the Mob Rule is in effect his unmodified LD, from which you then calculate bonuses and penalties.

Doesn't it say Ork mobs may substitute their ld for the number of boys in the mob? Does it get to use this when the test is against a loan model instead of the mob?

That's what I'm asking.

Leadership stat max is 10, so you always test on 10 with a large squad.

"lone" model
Yes, see the Weirdboy entry in the FAQ where the weirdboy gets to use mob rule.
Essentialy the statline of every single model can have the Ld value changed to "number of models in unit"

Just for clarity, I have my codex right here and will type it verbatim for everyone...
ork psychology and morale is directly linked to the number of Boyz around them at any given time. An Ork with a trukkload of his mates backing him up is a good sight more confident than one with just his half-wit mate zog at his heels! Because of this, Orks mobs may substitute the number of Orks in their mob for their normal leadership value. If an Ork mob numbers 11 or more models, if has the fearless special rule.
Yeah, i've not faced the mind shackle scarab yet but if your opponent was giving you guff about this he was probably unfamiliar his own rules or he's a moron. You should never expect an Ork squad to have anything less than leadership 10 and fearless till he hardly has a squad left. even then... it's not as bad to most orks as it is against marines ect.
