not to derail the other thread too much but this came up and I'm at a loss how to make this work but it seems so promising or at least insane enough to field just for kicks. much like my 6 dreadnaught list <_< and double storm raven + double dreadknight draigo list

how could one possibly make a 9 vendetta/valkyrie list work?

I think you need to play at least at 2,500 points. That's still half your points even at that level.

I see your nine vendettas and I raise you nine hydras at half the cost.
;D

Try and convince your locals that elysium drop troops aren't overpowered (they aren't)

it really works better than normal IG aircav just because you aren't stuck with 3 squads of valks that are one shooting phase from being annihilated, but you'll probably end up running

-6 squads of melta/plasmavets in planes
-2 command squads in planes
-one plane with stormtroopers inside

If you could split them into 9 seperate valks, it would be highly effective.
As they are forced to squadren, you face a few problems.

1) Your forced to shoot all the valks at the same targets. This is massive overkill for most targets
2) Squading gives you free extra armor, which you already get for free
3) Hit distribution means that units like psyriflemen dreads or hydra batteries bone the flyers hard. You can lose an entire squad from one lucky psyrifleman.

In summary, its a nice theme list, but will not be competitive. So long as you realize that, put whatever you like in it

It's doable.

Basically, you have 3 wings. The first is a squadron of valkyries holding a CCS with an astropath and some melta, and the other two with vets with plasma. The second is a squadron of vendettas designed to play a support role, and the third is either more valks or more vendettas filled with more vets.

The basic premise is that you've only got 3 units, as far as reserves rolls is concerned, and with an astropath, you're as likely as not to get all of your troops suddenly outflanking simultaneously (or at least 2/3ds on the first turn and the rest the next).

You basically have one hell of an alpha strike on turn 2, throwing around tons of melta, plasma, and lascannons and wrecking half your opponent's army in one stroke. It's gutsy, and it's fragile, but it's also very powerful.

Ideally, you'd do this at higher points levels, but a squad of two vendettas, a squad of two valkyries, and a squad with a valk and a vendetta, attending a melta CCS, and melta vet squad, and two plasma vet squads comes out to roughly 1250 points, and would be plenty competitive at this points level.

hrm.. 6 valks may be fun to try sorta like an air cav guard build out. I got 2 storm ravens and can probably borrow some eldar stuff to try a 4 valk build but will need to scrounge around for 2 more birds

Oklahoma City, Ok.

And i think it would fit the theme to have Stormtroopers DSing in as support.
That's if you had any points left....

heh, or you could put them in a valkyrie. Dont' they have some sort of special aerial something or other that makes stormies in valks extra cool, or something?
