Hey I'm building a zoat list using the OK army book and am using lizardmen models particularly saurus/temple guard models for the upper bodies but can't decide what type of mounts to use? Minus the heads of course as they are lizard/centaur monstrous infantry what do you all think centigor, chaos horses, cold ones, mournfang or wolves?

I tried to use Salamanders with the sail clipped off personally, though of your list Cold Ones, Wolves, Centigors and Horses don't look slightly reptillian and Mournfangs would be ridiculously proportioned unless it was a Kroxigor upper body

Yeah I was considering using the avatars of war kroxigor model as well as the GW ones if I was going the mourn fang root I am worried that the other models will look too flimsy for monstrous infantry

What is a Zoat?

Zoats:

In Warhammer Fantasy Zoats were a mystic druid-like race living deep in the forests of the old world, sometimes appearing in Wood Elf Armies. They were magical and Dragon Ogre strength in combat but were pretty slow. For some unknown reason Lizardmen feared the Zoats. They also appeared in Warhammer 40,000 as a genetically engineered slave race to the Tyranids, seeming to work as ambassadors as they were more rugged and could survive conditions of hostile planets better than the Tyranids themselves, and I believe were also in Eldar armies at a time, but were completely removed from canon in 40K, and until recenntly it was believed they were lost completely from Fantasy too. They were reintroduced in Storm of Magic along with the Fimir, but at present they don't have any models

The models above are long OOP and really rare, though I do personally own the one on the left

No, they're Zoats. His reference to dragon ogres was merely they were as strong as them in combat.

There are parallels, both are Reptillian Centaur creatures, though the Zoats are totally reptillian, the Dragon Ogres are only half reptile. They both have mysterious origins and are said to have existed before the coming of the Old Ones, both are extremely strong in close combat. But that's as far as the similarities go.

The Zoats are druids and live in forests, the Dragon Ogres are chaos beasts spending most of the time asleep in caves, and dragon ogres are less common, don't have their own societies and don't have access to magic, and there is no particular link ever mentioned in fluff, nor any interaction

I mean appearance/modeling wise. What I was trying to say is if you look up at how to convert your own dragon ogres you could do fairly well for zoats

In a way. Dragon Ogres and Zoats do look similar and both can look good with a Cold One lower body and either a Lizardman or Ogre upper body

Alternatively one thing that could work (though some greenstuff should be used to pad it out), is to get a Dragon Ogre, and put a Kroxigor upper body instead.

Also something to note is Zoats traditionally use a lot of maces and similar weapons

ZOAT <3!

Didn't they come back in the newest 'Nid book or something? Not as playable, but as a blip in the fluff sections? Jokaero came back too (note: Zoat > Jokaero ), and we've gotten those couple mentions of Fimir in the 8th edition WHFB book. Good time for random-as-gak thingies from the grimdark past

To my knowledge they have yet to have a revival in the 40k verse, their only mention in a long time being the Storm of Magic book, fingers crossed for at least a model, hopefully units or even an army from Warhammer Forge in the future, same with Fimir

Cool guys cheers for the help, I'm going to use kroxigor upper bodies and dragon ogre lower bodies for the characters, with temple guard/cold ones for IG, Belchers and Maneaters (I have great weapons, mini cannons and pistols) and saurus/cold ones for the bulls, and sabretusks for sabretusks
