Is it ok?

Can I put my special character in a friendly squad, or is it only ok if I put him in one of my squads?

Is it a case by case ruling, or is there a RAW ruling that I don't know about?

I was thinking it would make interesting combos all around, in a variety of situations.

Ya, I play Crons, what about it?
Also, they are just shiny space zombies with guns.

There are no rules to cover doubles, but in general army wide effects shouldn't mix/cross, but you can attach an IC to his units and vice versa.

Sweet, It seems too good to be true that I can put Shrike and a Jump Pack Chaplain in a full unit of Wraiths, with 2 Destroyer Lords!

I assume you mean to ask:

Is it okay if I put my special character into an allied unit not under my control?

Answer:

Everyone on the table should be in agreement prior to the game starting. Technically you need to be able to control the model, and since you lose control of it to your ally..... well, there's some interesting things that can happen (necrons with a ministorum priest for example, or a squad of Khorne Berzerks led by Commissar Yarrick.....?)

If my memory is up to par, the rulebook says that if an IC finishes its turn within 2 inches of a unit controlled by the same player, the IC automatically joins it (if it is able to do so). I don't see why the same scenario shouldn't apply between allied units. The trick to remember is your ally would still control his own model. They would be a squad only in so far as at the end of the turn, the two of you have finished the moves of the respective models so that the squad is maintained, you can't assume control of your ally's IC because he has "joined" your unit. You/your ally would have to move the IC back into unit formation each time that squad moved.

As with most things in doubles play, you have to discuss it with your opponents/ally. The game isn't inherantly setup to play this way.

That being said, the group I play with is almost always playing team games and we find it's best not to mix ICs. It can just make for some rather ridiculous units. We also generally try to stick to the wording of the rules, for example "Target eldar unit" versus "Target friendly unit"

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

You basically have to decide before the game what can happen.

Me and Jackster have discussed the disgusting combinations you can get with an IG blob squad and some choice GK and SM characters attached, specifically in Appoc. Lvl3 Librarian, Grandmaster, Pedro Kantor, and a Sanguinary Priest attached to a Power Blob. then you have a Ld10 Stubborn squad with each model having 3 Str7 attacks on the charge that roll 2D6 for armor penetration and are made at Inititive10, and the squad is benifiting from the Rad and Psychotroke grenades the grandmaster brought along. not to mention the FNP.
