ok im going to propose some new rules on the 40k universe just for the sake of this threat.
1. the empourer has returned to earth and is currently playing with his My first Science kit playing with his golden throne yadda yadda yadda, so pretty much hes out the window and has left everything to his "trusted" son horus.
2. the occoured that prevented those good ol' chappies from lovely warm propsero from practicing warp craft hasnt been past, so each legion still has its librarians (im presuming they seem to disapear for a time and re-introduced later on).
3. horus hasnt turned into the universes biggest Douché bag yet.
Ok there the rules, now heres the senario, the tau are 5000 years away and have already had there planets eaten by a premature nid swarm almost 9-11 thousand years early.
All the current hive fleets are flowing through the milky way and the imperium hasnt yet been fissioned.
The eldar are still screwed and the crons are sleeping in there onsie's oblivous to the impossible ammount of bio-mass currently arriving on there door step.
Orks... well they havent changed in 11 thousand years so it doesnt really matter, orks are orks .
Now im talking about an imperium thats united (so far) there getting fresh weapons, full titan legions, fresh power armour there technology is more advanced than in the 41st millenium (common you cant deny there loosing there technical know-how) and baneblades (and varients) by the handful (like sticking you hand in a giant vat of lego, presuming the each was a baneblade ) and there facing all the current hive fleets following the pattern there in arriving now, so heres the fun part...
Would the imperium survive? they havent expanded as far as the current imperial domain, but they there full force being brought to bear on an near infinite biomass comming there way, the inquasition hasnt been created yet and the sisters of silence are still called that.
Im going by fluff not tabletop results.
Let the debate begin!
:edit: orks not orcs o.o; & Grammer

Imperium... With the Emperor at it's head the Imperium is likely almost undefeatable, even if he is letting Horus do all the footwork. Hell even with just Horus at its head it's probably unstoppable. Eldar would likely help in order to top the nids... DE would take the chance to grab some slaves (like they always do) Orks are obvious. Chaos... well hard to predict. Basically a fully united and focused Imperium could probably survive through a lot. Even if it didn't a lot of things would die to make it fall.

What makes this scenario interesting is that it is based on the idea that both the Imperium and Tyranids are at their best.
What’s interesting about this scenario is that eliminating the precursor events of the Heresy pretty much eliminates the idea that a future heresy would occur (assuming Word Bearers are not traitors). Without a Chaos interference, this leaves us with a full strength Imperium vs Tyranids comparison.
Personally I’m going to put my hand in favour of the Imperium, largely because of they have access to all of the legions, the primarchs (and their tactical acumen) as well as enhanced technology, gives them a greater edge over the Tyranids (unless the Tyranid fleet is at insane numbers or have access to new biomorphs).

in Inquisitor, a Space Marine can take a krak grenade, pull out the pin, eat the grenade, throw the pin, and the thrown pin will actually kill a normal man, whereas the Space Marine won't even have indigestion. This has actually happened in a game. Hell, a marine can throw his bolt shells and do more damage than by shooting his boltgun |

This is a lot of nids were talking about. However, the huge amounts of space marines is definitely a table turner. The Tyranid could definitely adapt to a large amount of the pain the imperium would bring. Not to mention Gorgon was a hyper evolving bad ass fleet. Who knows what they could do if potted against humanity for so long.
Honestly I really don't know who would come out on top. The countless fringe worlds would definitely provide much needed Bio mass for the nids. Not to mention the shadow of the warp could have some nasty effects on the emprah maybe? Especially when leviathan came Into the fray.

That would suck sooooo much for the imperium. Imagine a super-Swarm lord......
Or would his genes be distributed to the rest of the fleet? Tyranids with tactical genious?

If the Emperor is still alive and active, the Tyranid cease to be a threat entirely. He will just scrape them off the galactic windscreen with a thought.

Not really. He's the most powerful single psyker in existance, but the Hive Mind is no slouch.

Right, but "no slouch" is still a long, long way off from "single most powerful psyker in existance".

Key word there being 'single'. The Hive Mind is the combined psykic power of the entire Tyranid race, just as the Emperor is/was (depending on point in history and your take on the fluff) the combined psykic capabilities of all of Earth's old shamen; and there's a lot more Tyranids than there were shamen.

Yeah, and if the Emperor erases the Hive Mind, or even just knocks it out for a short period of time, the Tyranid turn on each other and devour one another. Bug problem solved.

Considering that the Shadow in the Warp can block the Astronomicon, and that's caused by the 'Nids simply existing, I wouldn't put a lot of money on the Emperor being able to take out the Hive Mind.

I'd say he could disrupt it and even make it have to prioritise or focus on certain battles.
That way the rest of the Imperium can do that same.

+1 that is definitely something to consider. The astronomical is the emperors psychic power AND 1000 psykers that burn out every day. And the hive mind can just block it out? I would say the Tyranid are much more a problem then just a windshield mess.

The astronomical is the emperors psychic power
No, it isn't. The Emperor can direct all 50,000 lightyears of its radiance as he sees fit (can you say super-psychic-laser?), but he does not generate its power, and the 1000 psykers a day sacrificed on Terra are not sacrificed to power the Astronomican. They simply top off the Emperor's psychic power.
While the Chosen, those psykers selected to sit within the Chamber of the Astronomican do, eventually, wither and die, these are not the 1000 a day numbered frequently in fluff, and these people might, in fact, serve for very long periods of time before dying.

So why would they need to top off his psychic power if his psychic power isn't what is fueling the astronomicon?
Also, sorry for the poorly worded bit about the psykers. No they don't burn out every day. But they don't last to long. Especially when large warp phenomenon happen.

Um, I'm pretty sure the Emperor can't direct the Astronomicon like a super psychic laser. Pretty hard to explain the siege of Terra happening if he had access to such a weapon. In the 40k setting, there's not any evidence that the Emperor is even sentient at this point. Dude is just a husk anchoring a fractured soul that's been driven insane by ten thousand years of pain.
I always thought the thousands a day sacrifice was just the number of psykers who died and needed to be replaced per day (roughly). The length of time a given psyker lasted varied based on how strong they were. The actual setup that feeds the Emperor though I thought was something on the scale of a major football stadium.

Keep in mind that the Emperor must project the Astronomicon across the entire galaxy, so it isn't as strong as it would be if it were concentrated.
But that's the Big E while sitting on that golden potty up there, I'm not sure how it would work if he were up and running.
'Nids are probably one of the more devastating races out there, the sheer volume of their forces requires some consideration. I'm pretty sure the Imperium, even at it's peak during the Crusade, would have difficulty matching it. Sure they have the Emp, but the nids only real threat is the imperium so basically the full force of the devourer is against the imperium (i think that's what the OP is saying...).
I'm not saying the imperium will lose, but i'm saying that if they win, it'll be a really close fight
