I'm just wondering if this blob would be effective in a competitive setting.

20 Kabalite Warriors w/ 2 Dark Lances 230 points
+ Pain token from shenanigans

Just a big, immovable blob that's going to take a lot of firepower to move. What do you think? Has anyone used something like this in their lists? Pretty much anything that gets close to it is going to die and the 2 Dark Lances would take a long time to wipe out because of the 18 ablative wounds surrounding them. Its weakness would be long ranged infantry fire (splinter cannons, shuriken cannons, assault cannons, heavy bolters etc).

20 Warriors in cover with a Pain Token are a nightmare to shift from shooting, the issue is that they really aren't very efficient and have some notable weaknesses. You can't take them naked, you need a Sybarite to give them Ld9 otherwise they too vulnerable to morale issues. They also get crushed and swept by melee units, you can take a Sybarite with Agoniser and Grenade Launcher to help get around this, but at that point the unit is now 280pts (which is going from pricey to stupidly expensive) and still vulnerable. You can take things even further and add the Duke as well, which gives them 3+ poison for a massive 18" zone of death for infantry but then you are reaching deathstar prices without having a real deathstar.

I like the unit in theory, its just I can't work out (or have seen anyone else work out) a way to make it work in a competitive DE list, the huge cost in a single unit and its static nature are at odds with most of the rest of the army.

Add in Sybarite with PGL and Haemy with Liquifier. No agoniser on Sybarith , thats silliness , maximum venomblade. And probably no Dark Lances , better just Splinter Cannons. You do want to get into Rapid Fire range ocassionally.
The Pain Tokens is the king of such unit - if you feed him enough it will be best objective holder in DE force.

If all your other targets will be more threatening (i.e. assault units) that unit might see action. Or if you deploy it via Webway.

I don't know, I originally thought this would be a great tactic but they are ridiculously vulnerable to being assaulted, Marines jumping out of drop pods with flamers, or something like Fear of Darkness or whatever the BA power is called. A thunderfire cannon would also seriously ruin their day. I think that many points for 2 dark lances is questionable as well. If you want the combination of anti-tank and anti-infantry threat for cheaper, take a Razorwing

I think if your gonna take 20 warriors, start Duke Siliscus with them and give them x 2 splinter cannons for a 3+ wounding giggle. However in my experience a unit of Trueborn with shardcarbines in a raider does the same thing for better - and are not as vulnerable

This is their big Achilles Heel - any enemy that can manage an assault within a turn or 2 is going to be a big problem. Probably Caranthir's Duke S. suggestion bears some merit because it would add in some legitimate h2h potency, but the big squad has decided weaknesses if you don't have a way of securing your battlelines or at least overwhelming the opponent with more important targets.

Ludicrously overpriced. Absurdly vulnerable to assaulting and template weaponry. Split target priority. Limited range.

If you want lances, you can get them a lot cheaper. If you want something with FNP to stick in cover, grab some wracks. And maybe throw the Baron with them, if you're drooling over a 2+GtG/FNP unit. At least they don't cost 200 points...
