A simple question I have about the Imperial guard. When a platoon/leader gives an order, are they able to give that order to a none IG army such as a space marine squad? In the Codex it only says that the order can be given to a friendly non-vehicle unit so Im not sure if that would count as only being guard or not but I suspect it would. Just needing some help to clear this up.
Cheers.

If you are playing with a partner or you are allowed to use 2 different armies, it is always advised to ask the TO, Judge, or the opponent if you can use your Codex A rules on Codex B units.

Some rules, like the KFF, specifically mention that it only works on that army ("Friendly Ork Units" if I remember correctly).

RAW: If it says any friendly unit, and a unit is friendly if it is on your side, you can use the orders on them.

RAI: I would say that the spirit of the rule is that it is only for Imperial Guard.

In any case, I would assume that it only works for YOUR FOC (IE, not a friendly Guard army either) until you hear otherwise.

Hmm, alright. Well the match I was going to play I would be useing both guard and marines and its just a friendly so I'll check with my opponent to see what he thinks of it. Obviosly some of the rules (such as first rank fire! second rank fire!) would not work ebcause of the weaponry restrictions involved.

I'd venture a guess that most players wouldn't allow an IG officer to "order" a space marine sergeant around for purely fluff reasons. "Friendly" units in group matches should be discussed prior to the game. Unless the allied players are fielding the exact same army (IG, IG... GK, GK), most players wouldn't allow rules like that to cross over.

The FAQ addresses this in the context of the old WH/DH rules, but the answer specifically states that IG orders can only be issued to IG units.

Cheexsta hit the nail on the head. There is a faq precedent for it not to work.

If you did doubles with an IG player, you're set though!
