I've been painting Orks for a year solid now.
I feel like I've hit a solid "table top quality" but I also feel like I can do more.
Especially with my second round of kans, dreads, and HQ's like Ghaz.
Do you guys have any favorite painting tutorials? Videos are especially nice as I am a visual learner.
Thanks!
I feel like those tutorials are too basic for what I'm looking for at this point.
Although the models in most of those tutorials look amazing, I can't see how they got the results without using more techniques than they suggest.
The blending is too smooth, the details too fine, the highlighting too perfect.
I enjoy reading through the painting tutorials on CoolMiniOrNot. Their forums are also a great resource for information on painting and help with your current projects. If you want honest feedback from some of the best mini painters in the world then posting an image there for critique is a great way to start. There's also some great tutorials in the dakka articles area!
Learn the names of techniques you want to utilize (OSL, NMM, SENMM, Zenithal Highlighting, Drybrushing, Washes, Inks, Line Shading, Wet Blending, Pigments, Weathering, Patina... etc.) and youtube them. Browsing the CMON gallery and looking at minis is a good way to idenfity techniques you'd like to try. Ask people how they accomplished a certain look and a lot of times the artist will be more than happy to give you tips / their formulas on achieving said effect.
I always wanted to get the metallic paints tutorial as im not a fan of nmm but its been coming soon for over 2 years now so ive pretty much given up on that one.
