I'm going to attempt to build it to scale, task I know. It might have to be around 6 feet tall but that won't be a problem, I feel like I can handle it to some extent, and I may get midway through and decide to call it quits, but before anything I need a picture of it. Anybody know where to find one?

It pierces the heavens of fenris. You would need to make a big mountain.

Yeah I was just working it out on graph paper, we are talking 11 feet at the least, and that still wouldn't represent the hugeness of it... I'm thinking I'm going to make the base of the fang to some extent, having it go off the edge of the board but possibly having it tall enough to throw in some docking bays and whatnot, and a main gate on the front... I'm thinking a 7/9 ft. board, having the base be a permanent fixture on one side or the other, and I'll have enough room to throw in other terrain as you move out.

It's mentioned somewhere in one of the Space wolf books that the Fang is the tallest mountain in the whole imperium, so if you were hoping to make it in the standard 28mm, think again. It would be likely larger than 10 story building if made to scale.

Yeahhhh, actually I did the math concerning the earths atmosphere which ends around 800 miles up before you start seeing space and what not which after the math ended arounddddd..... 50+ feet tall... Regardless, working on a section of the base instead, but any pictures would still be greatly appreciated Automatically Appended Next Post: Coolyo294 wrote:http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?aId=4800010a

A complete scale model would be insane, especially if you wanted to play 40k on it.
You would be better off just making a portion of the mountain around an entrance to the fortress, maybe have a hanger entrence higher up.
Even then, its going to fill a large size room, but would be epic.

You could do a standard 4 by table, and using paper mache, or some carved up foam, create a slanted wall to represent an outer section of the mountain, this way, you could have the hangar door be large enough for fighting room, AND be able to have fights on the inner part of the mountain as well... sort of a "cut-away" view of the Fang.

11 feet at least? It goes into space. If warhammer is about 1/35 scale, your scale Fang would have to be 4700 feet tall.

Aye, me too. The small details all over it are just astonishing. You really get a feel for the narrative just by looking at it. I'd be a happy camper if I owned it.

Yeah agreed, the diorama on the GW sight is phenomenal. As it is, I'm either doing a section of the base of the fang with a possible cut away going inside the mountain, just like, a tank hanger or something, and maybe a second story with the skyhawk landing pad jutting out... A small enough section jutting out to really only be a portion of the corner of a 6x7 ft. board. Also, crystals are very easy to make and molded and frosted properly could give the effect of ice formations. I bought a bastion and the landing pad, the imperial statue and all that that comes with and also a WHF scenery of the chaos ruins. The rest can be finished with carving foam I imagine, and that just leaves the realistic painting as the hard part. I really want to go for something that looks great as playing with unpainted soda cans and lego trees at my friend's house is getting old, and takes away from the epicness. I may not even do the portion of the fang at all, perhaps just a SW Fenrisian outpost. Any tips are still greatly appreciated as now I've got a pretty concise Idea of where I'm going with this.

Low Earth Orbit is around 120 miles up, and the ISS wanders around the 200 mile range. Of course geosynchronous orbit is around 22k miles up.
Those numbers matter because the Fang has a space dock on the top. Though I also believe that the Fang is located at one of Fenris' poles, so anything that docked at the Fang wouldn't technically be orbiting the planet.

Sorry to go OT, but how could the fang penetrate into space? That doesn't seem right.
Just a thought, why not have the battle take place ON the fang? A mountain that size should have some large natural spaces and paths.

It just does ok
But seriously, whats wrong with it projecting into space? It just means its taller then the atmosphere on the planet. Maybe Fenris has a thinner atmosphere then most planets. Fenris could also be a huge mammer jammer of a planet that a small bump like the Fang wouldn't be seriously unbalancing. The Mountain could also be incredibly broad at its base with a relativly gentle incline to the main peak where it begins to rise really high.

Funny you should ask about the fang piercing into space, I found it odd too and came to the conclusion that there would have to be a combo of thin atmosphere and large planet, to varying degrees I suppose.

Thin relative to the planets size. The atmosphere could be as thick, or thicker, then earths, but if it was on a planet the size of Jupiter then you would have no problem with sections of the crust projecting through it.
My chapter's fortress monestary is actually located on a planet sized moon of a Gas giant, the moon's atmosphere is so thin that it only is in the lowest valleys. Its also covered in seas of liquid nitrogen. Instead of water the local life forms are based on Nitrogen as their liquid medium.
