Howdy y'all.
I have the following models, which represent around 1750 pts. I am looking for some play advise/couple extra models to buy to make it more competitive. (maybe take up to 2000 points?)
HQ (471pts)
- Avatar (155pts)
- Eldrad Ulthran (316pts)
--w/ 3 warlocks, (+destructor +enhance +spiritseer)
Elites (148pts)
- 6x Striking Scorpions
--w/ exarch (+scorpion claw)
Troops (360pts) (these are actually 2 defender guardian squads)
- 5x Pathfinders
- 5x Pathfinders
- 5x Pathfinders
Fast Attack (284pts)
- 5 xWarp Spiders (142pts)
-- w Exarch (+twin deathspinners, +withdraw)
- 5 xWarp Spiders (142pts)
-- w Exarch (+twin deathspinners, +withdraw)
Heavy Support (487pts)
- Dark Reapers (217pts)
--w/ Exarch (+EML +Fast Shot)

With the present list i agree that the mentioned harlies squad is the best addition
I would also suggest more troops. Id prefer defender guardians over pathfinders...

why guardians over rangers? In every game i've had the guardians get slaughtered before they can shoot anything but the heavy weapon (12' range is abyssmal)
If i dropped the 3 pathfinder squads for a pair of defender guardians - equip with scatter lasers I assume?
I'd also probably drop the warlock bodyguard to put the models attached to the guardian squads w/conceal...

Well there's a couple of things that I'd recommend.
Firstly, Drop the Warlock squad. They're too small to do any real damage and Eldrad should be fine on his own with a 3+ inv. Or stick him in with the Guardians Squads (see down.)
Secondly, I'd add in a squad of Harlies to act as a counter-assault unit. Meaning, they sit behind your force or preferably somewhere in the middle to attack anything which charges you.
Also, I'd drop the pathfinders for some Guardians (1 squad of Pathfinders is generally the most I'd recommend). The guardians will act as your screen, giving the rest of your army cover and with them being fearless, this'll help lessen the damage that you take.
Next, I'd drop the Warp spiders. They move much too fast for this list and will either have to move out of fearless to attack or stay behind and not shoot.
Again, I'd drop the Dark Reapers, they're incredibly niche and only really useful against MEQs and they don't really synergise will with the list.
For your heavy support, I'd take either 3 Wraithlords to provide cover for your Avatar and fulfill a much needed Anti-tank role or if you face a lot of poison weaponry, get two squads of 3 War Walkers with Scatter Lasers.

If you dropped the 3 pathfinder squads, you could add in 4 squads of guardians. Allowing you to move and fire a heavy weapon, rather than having 3 troop squads that are primarily stationary. Also it would give you much needed anti-tank.
With the extra points I would think about warlocks for the guardians, some fire dragons for heavy infantry and stopping parking lots from tank shocking everything in your middle. Or just go with a wraithguard squad as an anvil.

I agree that you need to ditch the Warlocks, and Pathfinders. The problem with pathfinders is that they are worth about half of the points we are expected to pay for them!
That said I like Warp Spiders, same with the reapers. While I'm not saying they are great, I'm saying they are good enough. You've got them pretty well kitted out, and they should work ok.
Missile + Fast Shot is pretty decent anti tank and MC- clocking in at bs 5 that squad is actually more shooty than a wraithlord- albeit not as choppy.
The Spiders need some trimmings though. Don't take withdraw unless you are also springing for Powered Blades. The extra attack + power weapon can help a lot letting the squad hold if you charge devestators or something.
I mean the Spider Exarch w/ 2 spinners is always worth it since hes got the same fire power at higher ballistic skill for less points than 2 squad members. However, I wouldn't recommend withdraw without blades.
Make sure those scorpions have shadow strike. They should be coming in through reserves.
Its not going to be an easy list to play, as you actually don't hit hard in cc. Scorpions don't have power weapons or rending... and you're MCs don't actually have a huge number of attacks. Consider trying to squeeze a squad of clowns with kisses in. They are pretty incredible close combat units.

one option would be to drop the Warpspider exarch powers and the clown Troop leader to get Warlocks w/conceal on both the guardian squads... not convinced yet though.

I'm going to ammend my post. Seeing as you own the models and are only looking to get more to fill 2000, different advice is needed.
I'd back the pathfinders down to rangers, saving 75 points. Then I'd pick up a squad of guardians, and fill out the rest with a nice anvil of wraithguard. Maybe throw more scorpions in if you can to make them a viable counterassault force.
