Steve-O got copies early and takes a look at these exciting new books that are clearly written with v3 of Flames of War in mind!

I know what to add to my Xmass list. I would also love to see a preview for V3.

Iiiiinteresting... Gah. If only I hadn't started with the D-Day compilations. I'd really like to run a Romanian list! My great-grandfather was in Romania when the Nazis took over - his options were to join the Romania army, which was crap, or the German army. He ended up as a loader for a flak 88. Luckily he had gotten my Grandfather and the rest of his family over to the US just in time.

From what I've read (this months Wargames Illustrated) Red Bear doesn't reference a change it has a completely new version of the rule included.

So is the change to the Hen and Chicks rule the only reason that some people are suggesting that the Eastern Front compilations are written with a third edition in mind?
I'm not saying that they're not working on a third edition, but if the Hen and Chicks thing is the only evidence, that seems kind of weak. Battlefront have modified and swapped special rules before.
Personally, the new Hen and Chicks rule was a long time in coming, and it's a good change. According to the website, the new rule makes it so Soviet tanks can always fire on the move now, it just adds an additional +1 to hit if they do. Machine guns are not affected, and there has been a points increase for tanks who are ROF 2 or higher. Tanks that are ROF 1 have actually had their points decreased, since the new Hen and Chicks rule has a more drastic effect on their shooting when on the move.

According to info that's come out, changes include...
The new Hen and Chicks rule
Direct fire for 81mm mortars
New rules for flamethrowers used against fully armored vehicles
Heavy Breakthrough Gun rule given to all gun teams 105mm+, and any turretless vehicle with a similarly sized weapon. This was formerly a Soviet-only rule.
150mm+ guns can now ambush, but must be at least 16" away from any enemy teams when the ambush is sprung.
The One Man Turret rule (used by the Romanians, who still had some French tanks in 1944) now provides a +1 penalty to shooting if you moved instead of prohibiting shooting entirely, and you can't fire the coax MG at the same time as the main gun.
There are so many changes that people are strongly suspecting we're seeing a pair of books that was specifically designed with a new edition in mind.
