Greetings,

Simple enough question, can a Spyder squad (Necron) spawn Scarabs into a squad that is currently in close combat. From what I can tell from battle reports and gut reaction the answer is yes. But one of the people I play against says no because it does not specifically say I can. So can I get some help determining this? Can't seem to find a post where this is confirmed or denied. Thank you all in advance.

Yes you can. It doesnt need to specifically state this, as you have general permission to place it into any scarab unit within 6", and there is no general restriction on models in combat - just shooting with or at them

His argument continues that since there is no precedent that you can do this to a squad in close combat. He continues by saying that he wouldn't play any army list that would want to do this. I can't think of any way of convincing him and was hoping for a thread in Dakka that had already discussed this in detail.

Then he isnt arguing from a rules basis, but an emotional one. The rules allow you to do it

Oh, and as for precedent - Mordraks ghost knights get added to the unit while in CC, potetnially

I don't know what there is to discuss really.

The rules say you can do something and therefore you can do it except in any listed prohibited situation. Since the rules don't specifically prohibit creating Spyders onto a unit locked in combat there is no logical reason to deny it.

Its the same reason that an Ork Mek can attempt to fix a friendly Dread or Kan locked in combat (providing he has the space to move into base contact with the Kan/Dread). The rules give you permission to do something, that means you get to do it unless the rules expressly prohibit you from doing said thing in a given situation.

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?

yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!

Thank you everyone. After reading this post and working through some logic he actually agrees that it does allow, he still has questions on the 'fairness' of it but he's a Grey Knight player so...yeah. Thanks everyone!
