It seems that I am finding less and less motivation to participate in any kinda of store run events like tournaments or campaigns
I mean they are generally fun and it is pretty awesome to emerge as the X champion. However most are just "for fun" or for some
garbage prize like a negligible gift card with 5-10 dollars or a dollar store skull drybrushed gold.
Okay seriously lemme get this straight you want me to do an escalation campaign where I am required to spend at least 200 dollars on an army and all
I am getting is a rhino spray painted gold...okay GW wth.I think this is the reason why store events have such low turnout and why 3rd party tournaments are
becoming larger and larger.I am all for fun and killing time pushing around plastic men but for the price I am paying and my time
something of substance would be much more appreciated.

We dont have a GW store out here, but when we still had a GW rep supplying prize support we had issues with a great deal of it being misappropriated..
now we charge between 15-30$ for a tournament and churn out gift cards

Know thy self. Everything follows this.

I agree that the prize support for for many GW events in their stores is not much of incentive to participate.

Depends on the store. My local GW ran a tournie the other week where the prize was £100 of GW vouchers, not bad.....

Chaos Space Marines, The Skull Guard: 4500pts
Fists of Dorn: 1500pts
Wood Elves, Awakened of Spring: 3425pts

I think it really depends on your local GW. Unfortunately, mine is more of the golden rhino kind...

I like to imagine the Emperor kills so many Orks that he ends up half buried beneath a pile of corpses, with only his head sticking out. A lone grot stumbles across him, and starts choking him.

Then Horus comes across the lone grot, somehow managing to kill the Emperor, and punts it into space.

It seems that GWs in England and the rest of europe get considerably better prizes compared to here in the US where
most stores have to come up with their own rewards on a limited budget and usually they are pretty homemade or shoddy
.I mean a great idea would be to have an annual tournament where a battalion or battleforce would be given to the 1st place winner.
its a win-win situation:you get the start on a brand new army and GW reaps the profits as you expand it.

Some places consider this gambling and have legal issues associated with it.

The local non-GW FLGS gets $150 every three months as prize support from GW. This gets added to the $10 entry fees. We have monthly tournaments now because of that.

Prize support is risky business. Because for all the good it can do it can turn a lot of people off.

In my experience if someone is only playing to win a prize, then they're playing for the wrong reasons. And the more fancy the prize the worse sportsmanship they tend to display. I have seen tickets for GenCon-full trip stuff- offered as a prize and to watch the way certain (as in 2 or 3 specific ) players react was appalling. They became win at all cost players, and it was disgusting. There were some players who I never saw again and they made it clear it was because of that.

It's something that drove players out of heroclix, (beyond set rotation and a horde of other things) because of the way they had it set up.

I think if you get a spray painted rhino for a prize you should smile with actual sincerity and say thank-you, and then shut up. Be a good sport.

Don't be so ungrateful, and don't forget the reason to play. Because people who complain about stuff like this eventually find they have no one to play with. (I've seen it in a number of games.)

Keep it friendly, and leave prize support for the huge tournies and events.

If not for the mediocre who would be great, and thank goodness for those who are just terrible they make even those who are mediocre look great

yes this is true but I am not asking for another army or a 500 dollar check. Its not asking too much to have something worth a bit more than some homemade items.I am not saying
that ALL gw prize support is bad but I feel that it can use a major overhaul. In my area because of the way scoring systems are set up WAAC players usually end up near the bottom
anyways.

I agree. A golden Dreadnought atop a fancy plinth would make an excellent trophy and tangible testament to my bragging rights, and that's all that I would require (maybe my entree fee back as well because I'm a cheap )
