I was just wondering if you guys/gals could help me find relevant information about Pre-Heresy Death Guard. I would like it if you would dump links to said locations here in this thread. I'm planning on starting a Pre-Heresy Death Guard army and want it to be as fluffy as possible, as well as use the information as a good conversation starter

Chaos 3.5 also referenced their tactics- Mortarion taught them to use bolters as pistols, drank poison and didn't like transports.

Oh yeah, they definitely did ceremonial poison drinking which is pretty cool in my book.

Except Morty was the only one able to do it without almost dissolving his innards...

Though the higher ups did it frequently, including Captain Garro. I believe it was also a part of their initiation into the legion if I'm not mistaken.

true, its is said in the flight of the eseinsten (not sure I wrote that correctly) that the recruits have to go trough a wood of poisonous plants, those that makes it can continue toward becoming an astartes, the other dies (usually).

Drinking poison was a way to prove they were bause, since it was like drinking death and beating it.

The Mortarion honourn guard had power scythes (which is bad ass, sad that 90% of the legion turned)

Im curious what happen to the loyal dg, etc. I havent read a ton of the heresy books. I know some were folded into the gk and dw(deathwatch not deathwing ) though.

Just for clarification, the bolters as pistols thing used to occasionally come up, where space wolves, death guard, and maybe some other chapters used to have the ability True Grit, which meant they were able to count bolters as CCWs when not assaulting (i.e. only once engaged), but now they all have pistols or pistols + ccws, so it's less relevant, outside of fluff.

Also, at least in 3.5, their havoc squads could only take special weapons, I''m pretty sure this had something to do with a doctrine generally not relying on regular heavy weapons.
