My friend and I are newer players, and we had some questions come up last night. We had a situation where the Grey Knight player had two riflemen dreadnoughts, a Librarian, and unit of 10 uniquely equipped Paladins with Draigo attached fighting in a massive combat with multiple units of Bloodletters, multiple units of Flesh Hounds, a Bloodthirster, a Daemon Prince, and Blood Crushers. So the questions:

1) Does the dreadnaught lose attacks as it loses gun arms, or does it always have it's base attacks of 2 (assuming of course it is not stunned/immoboilized)?

2) Do the wounds from several units at the same Initiative level get allocated at the same time, or separately? For example, a unit of Bloodletters and a unit of Flesh Hound are attacking the Paladins, are the wounds allocated to the Paladins all at once, or separately?

3) With a large combat like this, is there just one combat resolution where all wounds from each side are added, or does it depend on the combats? For example, the Librarian was in base-to-base only with the Bloodthirster, but the Bloodthirster was in base-to-base with Draigo as well. So if the Grey Knights lost combat, would the Libarian take a Leadership test and Draigo would take Fearless wounds?

4) Can the Paladins chose to swing with only their Stormbolters (or hands) so that the Flesh Hounds don't get their 2++ save with Blessing of the Blood God?

1) It keeps its base attacks of 2, even if it loses both arms
2) Everything at the same Init happens at the same time. It doesnt matter if multiple units are attacking.
3) Just one combat resolution, as detailed inthe multiple combat rules
4) No, they may not. Page 42, you MUST use your special weapon.

Nos is, as usual, completely correct in answering your questions. That is one heck of a combat.

Hah, yes, it was a pretty ridiculous combat.

Thanks for the replies!

Also note that Draigo in the above example would not take No Retreat! wounds. Independent Characters are treated as separate units only when resolving attacks. When it is time to determine combat results and take morale checks, they are back with their unit. Assuming at least one Paladin was alive, Draigo would be part of that unit, which is not Fearless.
