So I have been working on a 13th company list with thunder wolf lords for awhile, before I start really digging into the models I want to slim it down and tighten up the list as much as possible. The strategy is to put the wolf lords with thunderwolf cav, foot slog grey hunters and wolf guard to the front lead by the rune priest. Long fangs give cover fire as the hunters take points and hunker down.

It's just so cheap to mech up, though... a Rhino is only 35 points... take out 2 GH from each troop unit and you're basically there. And that way they won't get shot to pieces from a distance. I just don't like the 8-man squads, because at 10 you'll get a free HW. Might as well go down to 5 or 6 and get some transports in there.

I know it almost goes against the theme of 13th Company to have Vehicles; however, I can't help but wonder if Drop Pods could be a good thing for this list. Dropping one pack of Thunderwolves, you would have more than enough points and could even get 7 pods so as to have all of the hunters coming in at once.

@azazel
Thunderwolves cannot go in Drop Pods; however, they don't need it with the speed they carry. They usually can sit in Reserve and do nastiness on the turn they come in.

That is actually going to be modeled. My Thunderwolf Lords and I am hoping my Thunder wolf Cav are going to be converted Werewolf Lords and general Werewolf models. Those are going to be the mark of the wulfen =).

I like the idea but i am trying to avoid it since that is the next project for the wolves (gonna do Claws of Russ drop pod list), I am wondering if maybe putting some Fenrisian wolves or maybe wolf scouts would help out to give more things to shoot and or maybe come up from behind to blow stuff up.

Yeah, I didn't think so. I wasn't suggesting to do so; I just misinterpreted the line "dropping one pack of Thunderwolves" to mean he wanted to deploy them in pods, rather than remove them from the list.
My coffee has worn off.

Saga of the Bear is almost always worth more than warrior born.
I prefer TH on my TWC Lord. I also always choose a wolf tail talisman for each lord to get the TWC units extra psychic defence. If i'd ever play with these many TWC i'd run 1 Lord TH/SS and 1 Lord with Dual Claws and belt of russ.

I may try the hammer set up, I have tried the Dual claws though and wasn't to impressed.

What psyker powers are you taking with your Rune Priest out of curiosity? Technically you have to pick when you pick the army but that doesn't matter until game time. Helps to know what tactics you are building your army around though, and which powers will be able to help that.
If you are hoofing it you need to max out those squads. 2 bodies may not seem like much but it really is if you aren't in a transport (believe me; I never take transports anymore).
If it were me I'd be dropping a unit of Thunderwolves. That frees up 240 points. Tack on an extra 2 Grey Hunters on each squad (netting you a free special weapon) and you still have 120 points to play with. I'd throw on a pair of Fenrisan Wolves for each Wolf Lord (ablative wounds from shooting never hurts). Still 80 points left, so max out those Long Fangs. That leaves you just 5 points.
Also, again if it were me, I'd be dropping a Storm Shield in a heart beat and the WTN from the Lords. Cover saves generally see my wolves through to combat and I'm choosy about what they charge since they are I4 and I play against too many things with I4 or better. The point is however this gives you enough points for a 4th Thunderwolf and with the 5 points already left over you can tack on a Meltabomb for wound allocation (using a Boltgun as well to make all 4 have unique load outs).
4 Thunderwolves, 2 Wolf Lords on Thunderwolves (one of which has Saga of the Warrior Born) and 4 Fenrisan Wolves is already overkill. You'll survive shooting very easily and just decimate whatever you touch. Wolf Lords are good enough that they can split off on their own (particularly if you get the one with SotWB a few kills to get him started).
So you'd lose 12 rending close combat attacks but your core troops and heavy support will be more durable. I've yet to be in a game where I actually needed more than one Thunderwolf Cavalary unit.
