I'm about to paint my first 40k army ever. So, I figured I'd ask if anyone had any suggestions before I actually began painting, or perhaps suggestions on if I need to buy more paint before I begin.

Awhile back, I purchased some Blood Red, and Codex Grey. Not sure what I'll use this for, but I have it.

But today, I bought this: Mechrite Red, Bleached Bone, Graveyard Earth, Shining Gold, Skull White, Chaos Black, Boltgun Metal, and Devlan Mud as a final wash.

I saw this scheme somewhere else awhile back, and really liked it. Only thing is the flesh color they recommended isn't made anymore. So a flesh tone is definitely something I'm needing...

But here's what I was thinking. Mechrite Red for the armor, Graveyard Earth for the pants, and Shining Gold for the emblems.

Any advice or suggestions?

As far as flesh goes, if you want easy then look no further than Tallarn Flesh + Ogryn Flesh wash.

Use your blood red to highlight the mechrite red armor. Mix a bit of bleached bone into the cloth color for a cloth highlight too.

Your scheme sounds interesting. Make sure to post pics of your first few test models!

Thanks a lot! I was looking on at some Reaper paints for the skin... but sadly paints don't qualify for Amazon Prime

But Tallarn + Ogryn flesh I can find at a local place. So thanks for the heads-up!

I'll post some pictures relatively soon.

I'm digging this scheme. However, I would suggest a devlan mud wash rather than the black.

Really? I'll try that on the flamer I'm working on right now.

This is your first mini ever?! If so you did a great job. Most first paintjobs are blobby and unappealing but it seems like you're grasping the basic pretty quickly. Now just start trying out some highlighting on everything and you've got a good tabletop standard mini! Keep on painting, you'll be surprised how fast you'll progress painting 100 guardsmen, that's a lot of practice!

Wow, your quite good for a first time mini. I remember my first minis. They were awful as everyone kept telling me they were good so I didn't think I neeeded to improve at all. Back on topic, it's very good and I would use the devlan mud wash over the black.
