Hi everyone, in the new year it's looking like I might be attending one of the doubles tournament weekends at Warhammer World and it looks like the three people I’m going with (we have yet to decide who’s teaming up with who) are all planning to start new armies from scratch and make them pretty fancily painted, trying to win “best painted” awards.

The problem is that I want to use IG and I already have an almost entirely painted Guard army (so I don’t want to spend money to start a new army), and they're painted to what I’d call table top standard. I'd mainly be going just for the experience. Therefore, I’m wondering if anyone with experience of such an event knows if, when judging paint jobs, the two players’ forces are considered separately or if both are combined? I’m sure it’d be the first option, as everyone has a different level of skill and although you share the FOC it’s still two distinct armies allying, but there is some confusion over it at the moment (for example, the official information refers to the combined lists as an Army and each player's half of the FOC as a Force) so can any of you help?

EDIT: I should add that I'm not sure if this is the right forum...

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

According to that document the entire army brought by the teams is judged not only what 1 player owns.

Yes. Army seems to be defined as the two forces together, so you need to step up your painting if your team-mate wants a chance fo winning.

If your IG are at a decent tabletop level, so neatly painted and cohesive colour scheme then it's not a massive step to improve. Washing/highlighting are a start, but this is pretty much a given. What you really need is decorative bases, unit insignia, wow factor on your vehicles.
