Hey guys/gals, decided to start up a Black Templar army just for kicks. Starting of with 500 pts to test them out if I like them (both on the board and on the painting table) then i'll probably expand. I would like to keep it semi-effecient, too, so that's where you guys come in. Help?

HQ

Master Of Sanctity -/ 110 pts

Troops

Crusader Squad 1 -/ 147 pts
6x Initiates
- 1x Fist, 1x Flamer, CCWs
3x Neophytes
- CCWs
Dedicated Transport
Rhino -/ 50 pts

Crusader Squad 2 -/ 96 pts
5x Initiates
- ML,PG

Crusader Squad 3 -/ 96 pts
5x Initiates
- ML,PG

Total : 499 pts

If you payed close attention you might have figured out that this is everything in the battleforce plus a chaplain. Now to me, this seems like a pretty good 500 pts force but the fact that theres only one vehicle out there means that it'll pretty much be picked out real quick. At least it should stop my marines from doing anything stupid before they're close enough to go wild properly, right?

I could always chuck the rhino and downgrade the MoS to a Reclusiarch to flesh out the squad and go for a foot list, throwing the rhino in there once I get a larger force. My biggest fear about having the marines slog though is that my opponent could just lead my men around abusing righteous zeal until they break. My interpretation of the rule is that for every single wound taken by the squad, including neophytes, results in a morale check; should the unit fail they fall back, should they pass they run D6 further towards the enemy. In my humble opinion, the rule only benefits the BT player once in a while and more often than not makes life a lot harder. What do you guys think? About the list and the rule.

PS: The 3rd Crusader squad is just the Assault marines running without the jumpacks and using the Bolters and Weapons intended for the 1st Crusader Squad.

Hi and good choice of army as black templars are awesome,
now 500 points is a tight space to work in and I will assume you will be playing anyone and so want a all round list.

The only downside of templars is the 50 point cost on rhinos as it limits us for the mech side especially as low points such as this however I would recommend taking 2 with 2 7 man squads with combat weapons and bolt pistols and throw in a power fist in each squad, you could then throw in an emperors champion with accept any challenge no matter the odds

This is what I would take

emperors champion with accept any challenge 140

crusader squad with 7 initiates and a power fist and rhino 177

crusader squad with 7 initiates and a power fist and rhino 177

that puts you on 494

put the emperors champion in one of the crusader squads and don't forget his rule to move into base with other characters and this gives you a good assault army as the fists can take out any tank you will come across at 500 points and yo will re roll all misses in combat thanks to the vow on the emperors champion. This is just what I would do its your choice how you want to play and good luck and have fun.

the righteous zeal move is written as UP TO the roll on the dice so you don't have to actually move at all.

Second time I have read this in short succession please explain.

Pass a morale test then you must move towards the enemy as in the consolidate move. I read that as up to 3'' inches but must move means more than 0''.

Codex: Black Templar Pg. 23; 'This is identical to a consolidation move that has been achieved through a massacre result (massacre no longer exists) and follows all the normal rules given in the warhammer 40,000 rulebook.

BRB Pg. 40; 'This means that they may move UP TO D6" in any direction'

this is how we do it, read the full rules and you will see a few more tricks.

It is one of the rare times a codex's age makes the disadvantages they used to have advantages

Black Templar Recruit Undergoing Surgeries

Hey all,

I've just started playing Black Templars after a long break from 40k, I've written up a 500 point army and wanted to know what you all think.

Hq:
Emperor's Champ

Troop:
5x CC Crusaders /w Power Weapon + Flamer (Emperor's Champion connected to squad)
Rhino /w extra armor + Smoke launchers
5x Rng Crusaders /w Hv Bolter + Plasma gun
5x Rng Crusaders /w HV Bolter + Plasma gun

Fast Atk:
Land Speeder Typhoon

This team works by drawing the enemy in using the Hv bolter and Typhoon long ranged attacks. The Land Speeder is used to flank and keep the enemy on their toes. I've used the Rhino to help the CC squad get in quickly without taking to much damage. I've played this team a good few times so far and have had good results.

Let me know what you guys think and what can be done to possibly improve this team.

Cheers,
Odinson

Basically, when the Space Wolves are busy getting smashed, the Blood Angels are busy arranging their hair, the Ultrasmurfs are busy boosting their own egos, the Dark Angels are busy being paranoid heretics, the Salamanders are busy setting things on fire, and the Imperial Fists are busy being pious, you can count on the Black Templars to get things done. Righteously and with no mucking around.
