I'm an IG player and I'm thinking about making a tank company for apoc. one of my friends has an eldar force and the other a tryanid force. any suggestions on powerful formations against these?

Hmmm. Only piece of advice I can give is that if one of your opponents is likely to be Eldar & t'other 'Nids, then I'd make sure there are definitely Hydras kicking around. That 72" range & ability to negate the flat-out cover save of skimmers is a must. Also with the light armour of Eldar vehicles mean that those S7 AP4 twin-linked autocannons are going to hammer infantry, monstrous creatures, flyers & skimmers rather effectively (in theory).

Thing is I've never had to build a force for Apocalypse - never had a force big enough to play it! So beyond advising to include lovely, lovely Hydras, I'm not sure what else to suggest. Executioners & Demolishers to deal with the swarms of Nid infantry & tear up the lightly armoured Eldar?

Zoanthropes aren't Flyers, Skimmers, MCs, or ... anything special, besides a 3+ inv. save.

Perhaps use something like the 'line breaker' formation for space marines, but for the IG? It's the one that takes 3 vindicators and they all fire on 1 target getting a S: D Apocolypse blast out of it. So 3+ Demolisher cannons firing on the same target to put out some templaty goodness

Edmondblack: There's something about some str10, AP2 blast weaponry which says "i love you" in that very special way.

Just remember - Eldar and Tyranid players have ways of 'rubbing it in' in Apocalypse as well.

Just hope either of them don't get the urge to visit Forgeworld. A heirophant or Phantom titan can ruin everyones day in Apocalypse.

Shadowswords are always fun with strength D blast templates, good too just in case a titan pops up.

Until someone Flank Marches a titan behind it.

Deliberately being a gak in Apocalypse is stupid, because it isn't designed for be 'won' in the compeititve sense. There's plenty of strategic assets you can manipulate to make sure things like long range strenght D weapons do nothing against the targets they should be shooting.

That smoke screen asset is another one. Just keep the Shadowsword on the other side of the line with good movement and it won't do any hurt to a titan.

You don't need a titan to abuse strategic assets. Simply taking smoke screen means your tanks aren't going to be shooting them until they get close, or you move to get close to them.

Taking flank march on a formation with a lot of anti tank means he'll be hitting your tanks in the rear armour on turn 2.

Trying to 'win' Apocalypse is stupid.

Hydras are a must if you're facing Eldar, never leave home without them. Also, consider some artillery, a battery of siege mortars or Basilisks would go a long way.

Armored company I'd go for something a bit more mobile, standard LRBTs, Executioners, and Demolishers. Depends on how many points your running honestly. You can even go Super heavy if you think the damage is worth it.

Shadowkeepers (4000 points)
3rd Company (3000 points)

I could take a LR punisher for the 'nid hordes

I'm going to reiterate Hydras, they're a must here. A baneblade/baneblade variant isn't a bad idea but none of the one's I've faced lasted that long (I play Necrons). Anything that has strength D cannons isn't going to last to long especially when it's all by it's lonesome. Gotta bubble wrap it.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

There are some free Apoc data sheets from GW here.

However, before you play, send this link to your friends, too. To not share this kind of information is an unfriendly move.

I really hope you're joking. If you can't be friendly with your friends, you don't deserve them.
