Subject: Raven Guard Shopping Help (1500)

Hi. About a year back i started my first short-lived attempt in the world of wargaming and carelessly bought a bunch of things. Some are far as primed, some are still on the sprue. As an avid reader I did however spend some hours on the wikis and decided the Raven Guard was my chapter of choice, the fluff still speaks to me and if I had any tactical skills I'd like them to be sneaky and urban-guerrilla-style like theirs. Because of the constant nagging of some friends I have started to look into it again, triyng to assemble an army. This is what i've got this far, please keep to mind that my knowledge of the rulebook is still sketchy.
HQ:
ShadowCaptain Shrike
Troops:
5 Scouts with Sniper Rifles and Cloaks + Thelion
5 Scouts with CloseCombatWeapon on a Land Speeder
Elites:
5 Assault Terminators (Thunderhammer & Stormshields)
1 Dreadnought in a DropPod
Fast Attack
5 Assault Marines
I need help to improve on this, decide how to equip to choose and prepare some tactics, because I sadly haven't a clear picture of which purpose the different units and weapon types have. I probably should study the basics before spending any more money... Excuse my poor english, I didn't realize how rusty I've become.

The list is not that bad. Give your assault squad some weapons and you can drop the camo cloaks as Telion gives them stealth anyway.
Otherwise:
10 assault termies(they start with shrike)
10 scouts with Telion+ML or heavy bolter
5 scouts meltabomb and combimelta in the storm landspeeder
Dread in drop pod
5 venguard with jump packs and a bunch of good weapons.
Would be a good token force based on your idea.
Though if your opponent fails to deploy anything, i.e. they put everything into reserve, then you are hoping the battlefield is small and that you can cover all entrances.

thanks. my first tought was to deep strike the termies where they are needed (teleport homer for both scout squads?) and use the dreadnought to disrupt gun lines or vehicles the enemy has in his deployment zone. how should i equip him and the assault marines? (or venguard if I follow your advise)
some help how to expand from here would also be nice. I imagine that it will come to me once i have played a few games...

after some modelling time, some thougt ecc I have an other proposal on which i would like some C&C
it looks good to me, but I haven't yet developed a feeling for it... hope it's not too terrible.
here it goes:
HQ
ShadowCaptain Shrike 195
ShadowCaptain Korvydae 185
Troops
Scout Squad with Sniper Rifles, CamoCloaks and Teleport Homer (Missile Launcher?) 115
to infiltrate and sit on an objective 'til it's over
Scout Squad with Power Fist, CCW and Teleport Homer 115
on a Land Speeder Storm launch them against vehicles or small units
thanks to Korvydae:
10 Man Assault Squad (Equipment?) 190
divided in 2 squads, one with each shadowcaptain
Elite
5 Assault Terminators (3 TH/SS, 2 LC) 200
5 Terminators with Assault Cannon and 1 Chainfist 235
to teleport where needed
Dreadnought in DropPod 140
troubleshooting behind enemy lines
Fast Attack
Land Speeder Storm 50
Total: 1425 without some equipment.

As a fellow Raven Guard player I would like to say that I prefer to put Shrike with a squad of assault terminators and infiltrate them in.
Assault marines in the vanilla dex are not very competitive compared to other close combat units. that being said if you do decide to take them you want to have 2 or 3 full 10 man squads. Although they are extremely expensive points wise at the moment I do like having a vanguard unit.
I personally don't like the idea of a cc scout squad, imo they don't stand up well and the only times I have seen them fielded they usually get butchered before they accomplish anything.
I suggest a sternguard squad or more assault terminators (possibly with a land raider) to expand your list.

the naive idea behind the CCScouts would be to deliver the first punch with them and use their teleport homer to get terminators in before they get killed...
assault marines vs vanguard marines seems to be a major issue talking about raven guard... i guess i have to take your word, and wait to play some games.
have you any other advise on the ravens that could help me build this army?

If the CC scouts work for you then by all means use them, I am just sharing my experience.
Instead of taking Korvydae, might I suggest putting a chaplain with the vanguard or even with some assault terminators, I realize that the chaplain isn't the favorite HQ choice (most prefer a librarian here on dakka from what I can tell). I find that the chaplain really does wonders for me in either of those units.
Other than that go play some games see what works and what doesn't for you. The thing I have found is that someone can give you an extremely competitive list, but if you don't know how to use it or don't like the play style it will end up being worse for you.
