Spawn of Chaos

The Eye of Terror, by the will of the Dark Gods

Bored at work the other day, here goes,

I envisioned this as a land raider-esque vehicle that has been infested with a daemonic entity that exists only to consume. I imagine a large churning maw full of chopping, slicing, crushing, grinding bits in it, and through the consumption of souls/bodies, it fuels its only weapon, the Gore Cannon, that spews a brew of freshly mulched materials and warp energy.

Meatgrinder, Daemon Engine of Chaos - Pts ???

BS4 FA14 SA13 RA13

Consuming Maw - When tank shocking, deals 1d6 hits at strength 10 per unit involved. All models removed because of this move are considered to have been swallowed by the Meatgrinder, and place a Corpse Token next to the Meatgrinder to keep track. Failed Death or Glory attempts count as a swallowed model. Vehicles that are affected by this do not count towards consumption.

Gore cannon - Hellhound template, S5 AP- Heavy 1.
During the shooting phase, the player may spend Corpse tokens to improve the potency of the Gore Cannon.

1 Token - The gore cannon gains +1 Strength, up to a maximum of 10. Each time it is fired, it loses D3 Strength.
1 Token - May decrease the AP value by one, to a max of AP2. Each time it is fired, the AP reverts to AP-.
5 tokens - all unsaved wounds count as instant death. Only counts for a single shooting phase.

Hulking Monstrosity - When rolling on the vehicle damage chart, subtract a -1 modifier to each roll. Also, The Meatgrinder cannot be shaken or stunned.

The Meatgrinder is a heavy support choice for either a Chaos Space Marines army, or a Chaos Daemons army.

Thoughts, improvements, criticism . . .

edit: adjusted Armour values, added a base Strength to the Gore Cannon

I really like your idea. It would serve as a much needed second vehicle option for the Daemons. The problem is a Landraider is a huge point investment to begin with, but these special rules would put the unit at 300+ points easy. Unless you want the vehicle to be for apocalypse games only, this point cost would be pretty extreme for a normal game.

I would suggest lowering the armor values of at least the sides and rear. Because it will be tank shocking that front armor should be high so 14 is okay. I would make the sides 12 and the rear 12 or even 11 so that you can justify lowering the points cost to 250 or less.

I can agree on that, so ive brought side and rear down from 14.

HIDING IN METAL BAWKSES!

I think it would be ok at F14 S13 and R13. If it is supposed to be more like a LR, it would be ok. Maybe, 275 with that?

For that special rule, what about "Consuming Maw"? Reflects it eats things and it is like a mouth

I like the idea very much, apart from the idea that you have to Tank Shock to use the cannon, which could delay using it until later phases of the game. I suggest you add a couple of ranged weapons, the idea I had was some sort of harpoon device, which would ensnare hostiles and drag them into the maw for the Cannon. One on each side with the following profile:

Range 12" S5 Ap4, Heavy 1*
*You gain 1 Corpse Token for every casualty caused by these attacks.
