I picked up the Gepanzerte SS-Panzergrenadier for several reasons. One being I like the German's rules, I like that they are FV, and I also started them because not enough people in my area play Germans.

I picked the British because I was able to trade some of my 40k stuff for an army and so I'll have an excuse to have a cup of tea during the match. Playing Orks and drinking tea just doesn't mix. Although, if I took a bunch of scrap metal and fashioned a tea cup out of it with some rivets and other janky stuff, it may actually work.

I started with Late War British 6th Airborne because I got a really good deal from an acquaintance that was getting out of the game. Then I picked up various support elements including a lot of artillery.

Then I traded a friend for his German Tanks since he didn't want to play them anymore. Ended up with enough to field a Panzer Lehr army with a few additions.

I've got some stuff for a Panzergrenadier Lehr list, but that's on hold since of the few German players there were already enough Panzergrenadier players, and everyone else also had tanks.

So, I picked up a box of PSC german infantry and that was more than enough for a Grenadierkompanie that I plan to paint and use as Eastern Front troops. So it'll be nice to have a non-elite German army out there with the less common support options.

I recently purchased a Churchill company, late war, just because it was relatively affordable to do and I wanted to hit Axis players with one of the few heavy armor lists that the Western Allies have. Not too many people have or use Churchills.

Because I have so much British support stuff already, I'm already planning to just pickup a rifle company box to do some of the rifles lists.

And lastly, I got a tremendous deal on a 1500 point MW Strelkovy box, so now I have Soviets just in time for Red Bear. Although I bought this army as something of a gift for another friend of mine, since he's into the whole Soviet army ridiculousness thing.

A lot of stuff, yes. But I can't stress enough how lucky I've been with most of these acquisitions. Almost all of them have been for a fraction of retail, usually from friends who didn't want the stuff.

I picked LW Brits because no one had them when I started playing.

I picked up German Grenadiers because they work for Mid and Late War -- now I have something to play against my friends' Allied armies.

Me, I'm a sucker for the Desert stuff. When a few of us initially got into the game, MW Brits was the first army box set out. There was also an Italian boxset. One friend went Germans, another went Russians, another went Americans, so I figured, alright I'll go Italians, walk into the CLGS and BAM, Itals were gone! So I went for Brits, and I must have read that Afrika book a hundred times, deciding what unit to do, etc.

Then I had to move way north, and had to sell off most of my stuff, including 2 40k armies, 2 WFB armies, and sadly my Brits went as well. We had played a few games, but it had never caught on.

Fast forward to last year.. another guy suggested, after some 40k burnout, that we try Flames of War. The others still had their armies, and I tracked down where my army ended up, and I was able to buy it back!! The US player had literally JUST put his stuff up on Ebay, thinking "well, we never got into it"

Since I got my army back and played my first game New Years Day 2011, I have played nothing but Flames of War. I just think of all that money that woulda gone to 40k, instead went to fleshing out my small 1500 MW Desert Rat army to a massive Brit force, traded my converted Chaos Dwarves for 2 FoW army boxsets, and started Germans, etc etc.

I'm glad we gave FoW another try thats for sure. My latest stuff is enough tanks and vehicles to make EW-MW Afrika Korps, to go with my Desert Rats, and some desert scenery.

Though, battlefront has a lock on a few hundred from me WHEN (not IF) they release Japanese.

I play the british 6th airborne. They can be used in Latewar and even Midwar, and because of their Fearless Veteran status, they are a threat to most oppposition.

I chose them mostly for the possibility to play airdrops, but I haven't had a chance to airdrop yet, since all my games so far have been in tournament without this option.

However, our local "tournament season" ended this week, so I might get a few friendly games in after new years.

I wanted to play allied forces and had a long look at the Finnish, but in the end, I decided to go with the British because of the Paratroopers and Airlanding options.

I was originally going to do a 15th Scottish Division using the PDF on Battlefront's Website using some Brits I had gotten in a trade, but then I found Easy Army and went with a 50th Rifle Company instead. I'm now using the Cromwell platoon I have in that list to expand into a 7th Armoured list.

For the Germans? Well, who doesn't want to roll out with some Panzers, so it was the Panzerkompanie out of Earth & Steel. I was even able to use the Shermans I had gotten in the Open Fire! set in that list as captured tanks. And from their, it's now expanding into a Panzergrenadierkompanie from the same book.

And, I think it's pretty obvious what time/place my games take place in. I'm planning on finally finishing up my Brits soon, and then painting my friend's Fallschirmjagers. He has, literally, in the time that he's played 40k (3 years?) painted around 50 figures, so he'll never get to his Germans. Then we can head over the FLGS and see if we can't recruit some new players!

I grabbed Lehr Division after wondering about SS. In the end I found the SS was a, a bit too expensive in points terms and b, didn't sit right with me. So Lehr, as the uber- teaching unit turned kick ass Wehrmacht unit was a good choice, oh and mainly that most people where I live play mainly D-day and late war.

I liked the fact they are points expensive (so small force = CHeaper) and the fact they got alot of choices in everything standfast an all infantry force. The large groups of 251's, Stugs and Tanks makes you feel like you are an Mechanised Oberst.

I started with the Italian Bersaglieri boxed set because no one in my area played them and since we had a host of German players, thought it would be cool to ally-up with them in the desert.

Later, I started getting into MW Eastern Front, still sticking with the Italians, but running Fucilieri. My group started to get into campaign-mode, so to even the sides a bit, I started a Soviet Tank company.

Now, I am slowly building a MW German Grenadiers army that will be swappable for their LW counterparts in Earth & Steel. Though I am curious how they'll be in the Grey Wolf book for LW Eastern Front.

Still love my Italians though and they've played really well considering that seem to always be out-classsed and outgunned....lol! I've got multiple irons in the fire with these guys as I like their EW equipment too, so I'm still acquiring some units for EW games.

I picked up my fallschirmjager because FV meant more points per unit, therefore less cash outlay to get playing.

Picked up my Finns for something to use my StuGs with and an intense admiration for what they accomplished.

Plus both can switch between MW and LW fairly easily.

the soviets were always the coolest to me, though one day I will play a Scottish themed army, if I can (that's probably the next one, either them or Indians lol)

I started with a Panzerkompanie (back in v1) because it had a low model count and was cheap to buy. It slowly grew into a sizeable Panzergrenadier force.

I started my Soviets when the Plastic Soldier T34s came out because it was still cheap despite the high model count.

Started off just recently with the LW US 3rd Infantry Division out of Dogs & Devils. Seemed like a decent way to go to start out in Flames. Lots of footsloggers and tonnes of support options.

Have recently grabbed the Turning Tide book to have a play with some of the US lists there, can't wait to have a play with a Sherman tank company.

When I first got into flames of war, its was pretty much after I finished watching the entire Band of Brothers series for the 12th time, and then I found out I could be the 101st, and the rest was history.

I was looking to start a Jagdpanther company, but when I downloaded the Burning empires book, I saw the SAS squadron, and its looks pretty fun to play.

I picked Italian Bersaglieri partially because I already had one platoon of them (had bought it years ago at a game store in Gettysburg as a souvenir, little did I know how expensive of an army they are!) and I was interested in the Italians in WW2.
I also picked it because no one else was playing Italians, but now there are 2-3 other players with the releases of Hellfire and Back.

When I first read about FoW I had never seen or played a game nor knew anyone that plays it. I hadn't even seen a 15mm model let alone a BF one. So I took a punt and bought the MW British Rifle Company.

This was cos;

A) I'm British and it didn't feel right playing the baddies or the flash Harry's (US ).

B) It included Churchill's which are as we all know, by far the bestestist tank evar!

I then proceeded to never touch it until about the time the LW books started coming out and have now picked up more British units enough for LW Airborne, Armoured and Rifle companies all of which I am in the process of building/painting.

When this is done I will pick up that MW rifle company and make a 4th Indian Division force.

I have also picked up Panzer and Panzer Grenadier forces as I keep finding it on sale.

Why? It appears to have become an addiction!

I started with Mid War German Panzers as I've always thought that tank for tank, the Germans had a massive advantage over the Allies. I also like tanks. It wound up working in my favor as my friends all started Allied armies so I always have someone to play against.

Just my 2 cents

I chose Brits because I wanted to do something different. My friends were all confused when I didn't play Germans, but the British offered me a chance to better study and learn about the commonwealth forces that I was not as knowledgeable about in my years of WWII study. I also forced myself to commit to one country because I have tendency to go a little nuts on liking to have options so my British horde is massive now, but it is only a british horde and not a british horde, a german horde and a russian horde. With the exception of Tau I have built *at least* one of every 40k army and 6 or 7 different WFB armies as well and was trying to avoid that in FoW.

I use a lot of the same minis for EW and MW and there is some cross over in my armored car forces between MW and LW, but primarily play British Airborne in LW since british armor is generally kind of sucky in LW. With 1 firefly and 3 shermans or 1 challenger and 3 cromwells in a unit that tank with the big gun won't last long enough to deal with much german armor. It is much more fun watching the germans with all their tanks trying to dislodge my dug in FV guns and infantry to win scenarios. Even more fun when all those guns and infantry are dug in in forests making them that much harder to assault with armor.

Picked an SS Panzer company because i'm interested in the Eastern front and the low model count would keeps costs down. They also get all the high-end weapons and cool camouflage.
