Okay, all. I am getting back into 40k and I am really looking to do a Chaos army. However, I do not have the new Codex and I was wondering about a few things.
1. Can and if Yes how so, can demons be used?
2. Are there still rules for Cultists?
3. I would love to hear some real Pros and Cons about units and gameplay with the CSM in the current rules set.
Thanks inadvance, everyone!

1. But generic and not the same as daemons in the daemon book.
2. Not the same.. They broke up the chaos factions
3. CSM is a 4th edition codex so currently considered under powered though has some good stuff still in it for the competitve play. The rumor mill has been a buzz with the news of a new chaos legions book. So the original traitor legions not like the current book that focused a lot on defectors.
HQ - Currently in competitve play the main stays are DP with mon, wings or mos, lash, etc Some even make a mobile turret with MoT princes or the chaos sorcerer with lash
Elites - The prefered is chosen which is a squad who can infiltrate, scout and tote along lots of speacial weapons.
Troops - this is a mixed bag but a popular choice is plague marines
Fast - Im not sure but a few use raptors
Heavy - Defilers and Obliterators are the popular choices. Oblits due to the wide range of weapons they employ. Using lash to move stuff into neat piles for Oblits or Defiler to drop a big blast on the poor fellows. Im sure there are lots of better folks to help you with even more particulars but this is a small insight.

Draigo, Much appreciated insight. If I may ask a bit more in depth; are demons a troops choice at all. Or are they now a seperate faction. Also, could you give me an example of how cultists aren't the same? Are they in there as a troops choice, or are they not a playable part of the faction? Would their old rules be playable with 4th ed in friendly games? Thanks again!

HQ-Consistent Favvy has been DP wings mos and Lash but Lord with Daemon Weapon (preferably Chaos Undivided, Khorne, or Slaanesh is what I've seen) can be fun. Also Kharn tends to be a good unit to use
Elite-Chosen I've seen a bit, Termi's can be okay but it tends to cost a bit to make Assault Termi's, Also Dreadnoughts for some fun
Troop-Plague or Berzerkers, Noise Marines cost too much sadly
Fast Attack-Raptors are overpriced and under powered, better off with Bikers
Heavy - Obliterators, Havocs, Defiler (wishy washy here), and Vindicator

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

Daemons arent troops in the csm book. Theyre filler really. The daemons in their army book are much better. Cultists, daemons and the csm are all split up. There is no current rules for cultists.
As far as old rules how far back are you asking? I played the old iron warriors and might be ok if your opponent doesnt mind.

So are Demons a seperate army all together? And as far as cultists I was thinking of using the army list from the previous codex.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I noticed on GW websie the Summoned Demons Section...are they playable in the army?

Daemons have their own book yes. CSM just have summoned generic ones. The csm dont have bloodletters etc..

So demons just have a cover all book playable in fantasy and 40k? If so, that's pretty cool.

No they have one for 40k too since they got some daemon engines like the soul grinder.

Both greater and lesser daemons are very, very vanilla in the Chaos Space Marines book. While Chaos Daemons get Bloodletters, Plaguebearers, Daemonettes and Horrors, CSM just get a generic catchall Lesser Daemon. You can use any of those models to represent them though. Greater daemons are the exact same deal.
There are no rules for cultists, but if you were playing an Apocalypse game (giant games with multiple players and no rules on army composition) you could take a Guard army alongside your CSM and say they're a traitor cult. However, there are rumors going around about cultists being in the next edition of the codex.
Pros:
Tough, versatile troops. Daemonic possession upgrades on tanks, which let them move and fire no matter what. Pretty awesome daemon princes.
Cons:
Lots of suboptimal or plain bad options, not too many options altogether, outdated, oversimplified codex, slightly underpowered/overcosted in many cases, and a loss of the insane customization Chaos used to have in their previous codex.
Rumors say that Chaos will get a new codex in 2012, some say as early as spring, others as late as autumn.

hmmmm...sounds like I may hold off and start up with a small army of more recently updated forces to get things rolling and see where Chaos ends up.
