Any other Chaos Dwarfs players out there? If anyone could give me some advice on making a good competitive list, that would be great.

Well that really depends on which version of Chaos Dwarves you are playing....most people agree the Ravening Hordes list is too outdated to be used in the current system. Until about a month ago the IndyGT PDF list by Kevin Coleman was widely accepted (including at Adepticon and almost all Indy GT's) as the new codex. However with the release of the "Throne of Chaos" supplement from forgeworld as well as their new line of models for said book, even adepticon has said that this new book will be the Chaos Dwarf authority and the only list they will allow in competitive play.

Listen to the Garagehammer podcast, episode 37. they go in depth about the new chaos dwarf list. you might pick up some advise from that. One of the hosts, Christopher Barnette, is a Chaos Dwarf player

I am a Utah man sir, I live across the green, our gang is the jolliest that you have ever seen, Our co-eds are the fairest, ans each one's a shining star, our yell you'l hear it ringing through the mountains near and far.
Who am I sir? a UTAH MAN am I. A UTAH MAN sir, I will be till I die.

Were up to snuff, we never bluff were game for any fuss, no other gang of college men dare meet us in the MUSS. So fill your lungs and sing it out and shout it to the sky, we'll fight for dear old Crimson for a UTAH MAN AM I!!

I will be using forgeworld book. I used the ravening hordes list and still use it until I get the forgeworld one. my meta decided which list I was to use and they chose ravening hordes. though I have used recently the White dwarf presents chaos dwarf book for fun. the big thing is unless you are a tournement player (I am not) play with whatever list you want. our army is not official so no matter what you have to get permission from opponent

Will the FW stuff be allowed at major tournaments? I am not too familiar with Fantasy, but just a quick glance at some of the comments at Bugmans Brewery made me think they might be a bit over the top.

I would love to play them though, but I also would not like to have an army, FW at that which I cannot take to GT events.

I'm afraid there's no way to tell as each tournament can differ greatly on that.

Unlikely for right now, however the best way to get it allowed is by talking to the TOs that run it.

Pretty sure Tamurkan says that the Chaos Dwarf list is to be concidered an official list for Warhammer Fantasy.

Which is entirely irrelevant, as TOs do (we really do) decide what is and isnt allowed in tournaments.

All over

Alot of the big events now let the we forge world rules in. So yes chaos dwarfs are a legal army. But alot of people hate the destroyer. It's a bit over the top.

"Official" is pretty official. A TO can do anything. They can say you can't play Skaven. Or have to use only pink dice. But if the company says a list is official, it's going to hurt the rep of the tournament if there's not a good reason why it's disallowed. Unfamiliarity goes so far. They release new books all the time (well, not all the time). If you don't buy them, they will be unfamiliar. Gotta keep giving GW those $

Which is why for the first tourney im running this coming year, in jan, it isnt allowed - but i will have the book on me to show people. Assuming they dont have greasy hands of course, in which case they jsut get dreadsocked instead....

That way by the next comp we run enough people should have seen the list to not be floored by iit

I have to disagree that the destroyer is over the top. The old Chaos list had good war machines, hardy base troop supplemented by hordes of low cost hobgobs and if you played the INDY GT list, the rabble was 2 points a model and a human stat line. The new throne of chaos list indeed yes has some nasty stuff, it also comes at a nasty point cost. Point out a list and you will find that you can bring very few units to the table. They went from horde to elite and play differently. Yeah the destroyer is dangerous, as it should be for its points, and your opponent gets to throw a crap ton of his army at it. Not to mention its still cannonball fodder as a large target. I think the list is actually less competitive and dangerous now than the INDY GT (Coleman) list. BTW had the opportunity to play at adepticon against Kevin Coleman (no he wasnt playing Chaos Dwarves.....weird) and he is a hell of a nice guy....signed my printed out pdf INDY GT book even..

Cuz being the only unwoundable model in the game is ballanced. Many armies have no way of dealing with it without tailoring.

so, any army book released in the last 2-3 months would not be allowed in any of your tournaments Nos?

Um cannons can hurt hit, so can most large target creatures and poison doesnt care how tough you are.....quit crying cause you probably got owned by one in a game...almost any all comers list will have one of the 3 i mentioned already in their list...

Did you not see the game where it killed a cajillion witches by itself, i did provide a link. No i haven't had the pleasure to play against any CD sadly but i can tell when an interesting rule has been butchered by a failiure to playtest.

And one bad dice roll on the Burning Bright and the CD player loses the game himself 1/5 of his army points to his own creature.... again Im not saying its not dangerous, but you cant just look at one unit and not look at the rest of what the list did to CD. No inexpensive fodder, really expensive base troop, Bull Centaurs still suck imho.... Obviously we will just have to agree to disagree

What did those armies do in 7th when they faced something with High toughness? 6s didn't always wound back then.

And thing about it, even if it didn't have this rule, Str4 and below attacks wouldn't be all that useful against it anyway. I would still shoot it with high str attacks.

And then it costs an insane amount of points. It better be durable.

Like many big expensive things. Ignore it and beat everything else.

one unit in one army that isn't very common/is more expensive then other armies are to aquire models for. Seems fair to me. Definitly comp it at 0-1 for sure.

I don't think that's unreasonable. I think waiting for the first FAQ isn't even unreasonable. In CD's place, you also have to realize the book is like 50% more expensive than a regular book and more difficult to come by. Far more difficult. I think those are worth considering.

I think at Ard Boyz, GW hasn't allowed new codices/army books if they are released within a month of the Preliminary. but you can use the updated codex/army book at the Semi-finals and Finals if you wish.

So, any advice on Chaos Dwarfs using the Tamurkhan list?

Well, I tried my list out once so far...now I just need to win the lottery so I can buy the models...

The main thing I can offer is that the Lore of Hashut is pretty awesome. Ash storm (if I've got the name right) will wreck people's day.

Basically I ran 3 deathshriekers, a Skullcracker, a Dreadquake mortar, a lvl 4 and a lvl 1, BSB, and two blocks of 25 Infernal Guard. I lost about 20 IG total between the two units, two deathshriekers, and my Mortar. The deathshriekers are great because they were versatile enough to take out my (Empire) opponent's warmachines, and still do a number on his block of swordsmen.

My best recommendation is to give your BSB the mask of the furnace and a shield for a 2+/4++, and the Enchanted shield and Talisman of Protection to your sorceror for a 2+/4++. They're pretty hard to bring down at that point...

Perhaps if you had more specific questions I could help more...While I have spent a LOT of time looking at the book, I've only played the once. Sorry...

No, your advice is very helpful! I have spent a lot of the time looking at the book, so now I just need tactics. I have two blocks of 10 Infernal Guard, plus some OOP Warriors and 10 Fireglaves. I am ordering more Infernal guard, Iron Daemons, and various war machines. I may try some other units, such as K'daii and Centaurs. I really just need help on making a good list.

I strongly recommend the Skull cracker over the regular Iron Daemon. It's pretty awesome

There's a youtube video of the K'daii running roughshod on everything...it looks like fun

I REALLY want to run bull centaurs, but your only option for those are the OOP ones at the moment.
