Hi, I've just started working on a Necron List that I hope can be at least decently competitve. I haven't really done much work on how the list is going to work yet, but I'm hoping that the Lords will fly up carving into the most shooty of my opponents vehicles while my Crypteks prevent a degree of Alpha striking in the first couple of my opponents turns. While night fighting is still there however, the Stalkers and the Spyders move up. The list can be found below, I am also currently 125 points over and was wondering on your opinion of where these could be cut. C&C is most welcome. Thanks!

Spyders without a scarab swarm to be topping up, especially 9 of them seems like a massive sink of points with little use. Best bet would be to drop 3 of them to get the points to actually take a few swarms of scarabs to give use to the other 6.

You might want to give your stalkers different load outs too, 1 heatray for upclose and personal, 1 heavy gauss for tank popping and 1 particle for horde stomping, this'll give you the ability to twin link the army at all ranges.

Other than that your troop choices seem a little... small at this level, 3 of them is great but with just 5 men in each you might take a hammering and lose your only scoring units.

Drop a stalker and get 10 scarabs.

I would also drop one unit of Tomb Spyders and add claws/gloom prisms or Partical Beamers to one or two models in each of the other two groups.

I find the lack of troops disturbing. You can get away with only 3 Troop choices at 1500, but not when they only have 5 models each. Drop the Spyders (without Scarabs...why?) and 1 Stalker and grab Scarabs and more Immortals. 3 units of 8-10 would be far more threatening. For the 600 points, you could get:

8 Scarabs-120
8 Scarabs-120
1 Annihilation Barge-90
1 Annihilation Barge-90
9 more Immortals (3 per unit)

and still have 27 points to spare. To get 125 under, drop the other 8 Scarab squad and add one more to the other one.

You'd then have
2 Overlords on CCB
2 HoD w Pulse
2 Stalkers
3x8 Immortals
9 Scarabs
2 Annililation Barges

That's 6 AV13 vehicles and Scarabs to worry about. Not bad. I'd also consider dropping the second Pulse. At 1500, it's very tough to put that many points into your HQ choices.

Ok, thanks for the quick replies.

I wasn't really taking the Spyders in order to fill up Scarab Swarms. This is because, 1) I don't want the Scarabs to have to slow down in order to keep together with the Spyders, as they can move so much more quickly, and 2) 50pts for a S6 T6 Monstrous Creature seems good to me anyway, regardless of whether they can add bases to Scarabs.

I suppose changing the loadouts of the Stalkers might be a good idea, but most lists only need to worry about one or two of these Stalkers, and so will take out the ones that pose the biggest threat to them, and then might ignore the rest, and this also involves sinking 20 more points that I don't have anyway into the Stalkers, although when I cut down the points this is something that I will consider.

Yes, you are definately right on the third points, but I really consider the Troops section in the new Necron Codex to be poor, and so want to sink as few points into it as possible. Plus, the Night Fighting should keep them reasonably safe for the first 2 turns, as they will try to stay away from the enemies, and afterwards, I may have been able to knock out some of their long range firepower and hug some more cover with the Immortals themselves. However, this is again something that I may have to consider.

Thanks for your Help!

I suppose the Scarbs might help me with Entropic Strike, and also as Melcavuk said, can make further use of the Spyders, although this isn't primarily what they're there for. Not sure about the claws as they'll only work on the Stalkers and they will have probably suffered a penetrating hit reducing them to AV11 by now. However, the Glooms are a good idea to help count force weapons etc, as are the Particle Beamers as they'll add some additional firepower there.

Thanks for your Help!
