Having found little (read as no) way to nicely and neatly model a difference between various Harbingers staves using my limited greenstuff abilities I have resolved to simple disinguish the difference cryptek weapons through differing paint jobs.
Do these look suitable, and if so which suits which harbinger best.
In my eyes they go as follows:
Harbinger of Despair: Purple
Harbinger of Destruction: Red
Harbinger of Transmogrification: Green
Harbinger of either Storm or the one I've forgotten: White
C&C welcome.

The purple one is great - good choice of color for despair. The red one is good too, maybe a few lighter tones as highlights? A few thin lines of orange might do the trick. The green is good too, the white is the only one I don't like much. Why not try a light blue type of color instead?
Nice work.
EDIT Maybe you could just give the white one a good wash of Asurmen Blue (or other blu-ish ink). Just a thought.

May end up keeping the white/bone as a generic staff of light head if I can clean it up a little.
Could do another and ink it blue though to give me something atleast resembling a harbinger of storms staff head (blue/white has a stormy vibe to me)
Cheers for the comment

I would make my own staffs to be honest. Maybe snip some of the fan-like things off the originals or make something out of spare bits. To me, the whole idea of crypteks goes down the drain when they look exactly alike, even if the paintjob is different.

I really, really like this; minimal converting effort but it looks good, and is clearly distinct. Consider this idea stolen!

Whilst I get where you're coming from I'm only an average painter and below average at converting, the use of one flat base of staff distinguished by model and colour scheme allows the model to define cryptek, and then modelling additional wargear and painting the staff by discipline to define type

In that case id say the red and the purple one look really nice. The rest im not so sure about. As for conversions, you need to start somewhere to get better it really pays off.
