Then in the name of democracy let's use that power, let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give you the future and old age and security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power, but they lie. They do not fulfil their promise, they never will. Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people. Now let us fight to fulfil that promise. Let us fight to free the world, to do away with national barriers, do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men's happiness.

It's from the movie The Great Dictator, in which he ridiculed Hitler. It was released one year before the United States joined the war. A few years later, Chaplin was exiled from the US by J Edgar Hoover, due to his political beliefs, as he was not an American citizen but a Brit and therefore could not have been brought before the McCarthy Witchhunt trials.

Let's give credit where credit is due. Mr.Chaplin didn't just ridicule Hitler he did it first (in Hollywood), and also his first talking picture. Sure he was exiled for being a Socialist, I'm not convinced communist and there are a difference.

What biccat is attempting to manipulate is that Chaplin stated he did not think he could have made a movie mocking the nazis if he'd known of the genocide they were committing.

It is not the same thing.
