No good way to start this but here we go. I want to make a couple of squads of squats for my Imperial Guard army. Theyre probably just going to be basic infantry/vet squads, not more than 20 or so tops. Yes, I realize that they were supposedly wiped out by the Tyranids, but I like the idea of a small group of survivors stuck in the middle of the Imperium trying to get by without drawing attention. Maybe fighting in the IG in an attempt to avenge their fallen brothers, or because they were drafted, I'm not really sure yet (I literally just started, and I dont have a concrete idea of what my army's theme is going to be yet)

Why squats you ask? Mainly just to say that I've got squats, but also to fit with the theme that I'm making for my little army. Long story short, it's a composite regiment that consists of numerous veteran squads that are the sole survivors of their original units (allowing me to make all different kinds of models and army styles. Hopefully it will turn out as a cool and unique army, instead of looking like I just bought a bunch of dudes off ebay and threw em together... ) The squats would just be another group of guys who are the last of their regiment, and got thrown into this ramshackle new regiment, hoping they wont get sent on another suicide mission.

Only problem I've got is I'm not really sure how a good way to go about making some IG squats, and even if I do, I'm not sure if they'll be "legal" for use in most games. I'm just using them as plain old vanilla guardsmen, but it wouldnt surprise me to see a guy get bent out of shape over it. As for actually making them, I'm thinking about buying some fantasy dwarves, sticking lasguns in their arms, and calling it a day, but I'm not sure how well that will work. I'd love to buy a few off ebay, but they all seem to be awfully expensive, so thats probably out too.

Anybody ever tried this before? Any tips or advice would be appreciated, as I just got into 40k about a month ago, I'll take all the help I can get. (I literally only have two Command squads at the moment and nothing else...) I'm sure everyone is sick of hearing about squats by now, but I want some friggin squats for my army.

Thanks for any advice you can offer, I just joined this site and it amazes me how much awesome stuff gets posted on here everyday.

Slapping Lasguns on dwarves would work fine, and I would love to see some squats on the tabletop

A few companies make Squat minis (Mantic Games springs to mind), though you could always just cut down a set of guard legs as I've seen a few people do. Fluff wise there's the option that not all of the Squat worlds happened to be in this one part of the Galaxy. Though Squats came in to being around the centre ofthe galaxy there's good reason to believe that they would spread further out and youknow...not be somehow all killed by the nids (if you've read the Inquisitor War books you'll know that there's a fair few Squats chucking about still anyway...well until they just retconned the Squats entirely out of existance that is).

I'm really tempted to make the little guys a banner that says "We aint dead yet!" or something along those lines, just for fun. That was the main reason I kind of wanted a few though, was just because GW has put so much effort into trying to retcon them out of existance. I can get why they did what they did, but that doesnt make me like the little guys any less

The ad mech squat is good for a one-off character. Shame they sell for silly money on eBay.
