Subject: Cygor/Ghorgon question

Storm Trooper with Maglight

Hi there. I just bought a Cygor/Ghorgon (spur of the moment purchase, wasnt expecting the store to have it without having to order it) today and have opened the box and taken a look at everything but can't decide on making it a Cygor or Ghorgon.
But before that I have a question about the Cygor. How do I use its rune throw attack. Is it a blast, and allso where does it say the damage and strength of the rune? I know what the Cygors Str and Tgh are but not sure how throwing the rune stones work. That being said I have never played a game of Fantasy yet with my beastmen, or ever with anything. But I do have a beastmen battle set, + a razorgor + Malagor + 3 Minotaurs + Warhounds.
I am thinking of going with the Ghorgon just because it seems like I'll kill more and get better bonuses with him, but if I take the Cygor it means I can have unlimited range with the throwing runes which could be useful for taking out wizards at a distance.
What do you guys think. Thanks Dakka

The stones work like a regular stone thrower. Check your Warhammer rulebook, but I think it's 48" with S3, 9 on the center hole.
The only thing about the Cygor is that it's only T5 with 5 wounds. The Ghorgon gets +1 Toughness and Wound for the same points cost, and the ability to re-gain wounds.
Either way, both choices are meh in the sense that they're both easy to kill in 8th edition. I'd suggest a Ghorgon, but Cygors are decent in that you can hide them and have them chuck rocks. Whichever you field, bring lots of large targets to saturate the field, perhaps in the form of another Ghorgon/Cygor or a Giant.

Or a Jabberslythe to accompany whatever I decide to choose. I really want to get one of those too.
Yes I will have to re-read the rule book on Stonethrowers, don't think I've read that part at all yet actually.
And also the cygor's other special thigns arent that great. Plus ghrogon gets additional attacks when it wins combat.
Despite the fact I like the look better of the giant stone and the cygor I am going to build the Ghorgon. Its more practical and I want my army to work to the max it can be this time.
Thanks Cryonic for your input.

Oh, wow. Didn't even see these models released. They look pretty cool.
I'm going to disagree with the others and suggest a Cygor. Because Beastmen have almost no ranged whatsoever. Think of him as a Stonethrower that can fight.
That said, the Ghorgon is a much better attacker. But the Cygor can soften up your opponents before you get there.

Ghorgon all the way, I actually think they're pretty excellent, just fatally naked. Even a 5+ scaly skin save would go a long way towards keeping him alive against S3-4 small arms or poisoned shooters
Aside: sorry GeeDub, this is what a ghorgon looks like

In theory they are pure awesome, but on the table they fall short. With most armies not really bothered by leadership tests anymore because of BSBs and whatnot, it's not very often they fail. That and their WS of a measly 2 doesn't make them exactly big fighters.

I think the spawn is slightly above the cygor, mostly because of their point cost. That and i've never really been disappointed by my spawns.
