Death Company are expensive and cant capture objectives. Why not just run assault Marines?

Well, I've been reading the other posts I had on that subject and I WOULD run assault marines but I've run into two problems. I need 20 assault marines to get to the thirty everyone suggested, and I have 10 DC which I'm not sure how to make them look like normal assault marines.

Well, you could always use them as Vanguard Veterans. in the blood angels codex, vanguard are actually worth their points. 2 5 man squads of vanguard, each kitted with jump packs, and an extra thunder hammer, could prove quite effective in an army.

@ Horst how would make the DC change? I just posted over on the modeling one on a conversion and I would rather NOT use the DC if I can avoid it tbh but I'm low on funds and I have half of the army already done but every which way I turn it's either ordering new bits or spending right at 140 dollars for the extra 20 marines. Where would you suggest getting the hammers? I have an extra long fangs kit sitting around the house but everything would seem so jumbled...

You know what. I think it sounds fun as to use. Even if death company are expensive their still effective and you don't see them around very often.
Astorath is a pretty sounds HQ. I really like him. Especially when his running around with 15 DC Lol.
The best part is, he's pretty much made to support DC, so yeah I'd definitely stick with him

I think I've mentioned this in another thread, but I like DC. They can't capture objectives, but that is just wasting them: DC are there to contest objectives. Think of DC as the guys that kick down the doors that the other Space Marines don't want to.
The way to use them properly would be to determine what objective your opponent is sitting on, and then send DC in to tangle with those guys. And I'd use Lemartes with DC. Mephiston otherwise.
Just make sure you have a transport for DC. A Land Raider Redeemer would be my pick. Put DC into it, then roll it up the battlefield towards the objective that you want to contest, and park it. Then let DC charge out and cause some mayhem.

I have run dc oriented lists a number of different ways in casual games with my brothers and friends. Dc are very entertaining in a casual game, especially if you have a teammate to pick up the obvious areas they slack in that reduces their competitiveness.
I am not sure why you would take astorath with 15 dc. Remember, without wargear, dc are not worlds and away more powerful than your typical meq. The biggest benefit from astorath (as opposed to a generic chap/reclusiarch) is that he let's you take more than one unit of dc. But splitting 15 dc between two units would radically reduce their effectiveness. Ideally, I would want 10+ in each squad. Treat them almost like a marine blob, mixing in wargear to taste.
Be sure to give them a chaplain of some sort in the squad, because mathhammer will show you that the rerolls will be more cost effective than more bodies. This is another way astorath loses attractiveness, because as he has a jp, your only means of transporting them to manage the black rage would be in a raven. Alternatively, with a generic chaplain you still get rerolls but can put them in a drop pod, rhino, or landraider.
Just some food for thought. Astorath is cool and fluffy but unless you are running an all out dc theme list (I cannot recommend dc dreads enough, especially in pods) he doesn't give you enough for the high cost.
Let us know if your mileage varies

I'm just trying to get the most peverbial bang for my buck if you know what I mean. I have a few posts that I've been trying to figure out the most cost effective way to get 30 assault marines and have a mech army but I have 20 tac marines and 10 dc but only 10 assault marines and I keep going back and forth on having DC or not. I have a raven atm and I plan on a furioso and dropping that in with lemartes and a DC squad while having 20 tac marines two baal preds and assorted rhinos/razorbacks pull up for objectives while the enemy is stuck dealing with a god awful amount of damage and for that matter bodies at that stage just sounds like a lot of fun to me =) but I'm a TOTAL noob in the way of the tabletop game and I've been watching youtube and see that assault squad - rhinos - mephiston is a winning combo but, as I said I just wanted to get the most out the battleforces I purchased because money is tight atm =)

I know exactly where you're coming from. Here is what I would do:
10x DC & Lemartes in a LR Crusader.
10x Tac Marines in a Rhino
10x Tac Marines in a Rhino
5x Assault Marines in a Razorback
5x Assault marines in a Razorback
2x Baal Predators
1x Dreadnought in a Stormraven
1x Mephiston hiding behind the transports
1. Send the LR into the enemy and wait until you see a soft spot. Then open the doors and let DC do their thing.
2. Move your transports toward objectives, with Mephiston sneaking around out of direct sight to any big guns.
3. Drop that Dreadnought into a soft spot, maybe near whatever DC is tearing up.
4. Continue to move transports toward objectives, then let Mephiston turn into a murder-machine when he gets within 24" of anything that doesn't have invulnerable saves.
Given what you've said you already own, I think you've already got this setup. If any purchases are required, it'll only be the LR, which you can pick up for pretty cheap on the swap shop or eBay. And this build will be pretty strong. I don't know if it'll win any tournaments, but then I don't think BA win many tournaments nowadays anyway. But in casual/semi-competitive play, this is a very strong list.

That sounds pretty reasonable, except that Lemartes can't (afaik) go in a LRC with the DC because of his jump pack.
Run the Baals naked – that way you can keep them mobile instead of having to decide between firing the sponsons and maneuvering.
Remember that 5 Assault Marines in a RB can still take a special weapon. Melta are always popular.

Well, from what you said what could I add in to make that any better I need the razorbacks and I have about 200 dollars left to play with and I don't own mephiston but he's not all that expensive in the way of money. so I would need the razorbacks mephiston land raider what else could I get for around 50 or so bucks that might help these guys out? I thought sang guard dante might be some fun. and I thought tac marines were a nono for BA? Automatically Appended Next Post: Also in this list would a librarian or an un-named chaplain in say terminator armor do me any better? Or is lemartes just a BA with DC? How would a set of terminators do for me? And can I stick the DC and lemartes in with the storm raven?

I don't recall what the rules for Storm Ravens are, but if you can then you should definitely take that option, because it will be way kinder to your wallet.
Mephiston you can pick up for very cheap second-hand.
And Tac marines aren't forbidden, it's just that assault marines play to the BA strengths much better. However, if Tac marines are what you've got, then work with that. However, if you just pick up some extra arm bits with weapons from eBay, you can easily turn those Tac marines into assault marines for very cheap. Like, maybe ten bucks.
And put some Lascannons on those Rhinos. And as above, I would make sure you are taking Melta with the combat squads.

I'm leaving in two hours to get the rest of my army =) and I've decided to go the way of changing my DC into assault marines and buying 10 more. That'll leave me with about 130 dollars to play with then going straight for some troop choices a furioso and maybe a couple razorbacks? and dante-sanguinary guard? Who knows hopefully I'll be back with some great news with all of the help you guys have provided! And one last question how many HQ's can you have in one game my GF just got me mephiston so can I have him and dante or is that evn worth the buy? and would a land raider storm raven do me any good like as a combo and for the amount of points both will cost.

Mephiston is insane... more assault marines sounds like an excellent buy. I agree about getting bits to turn your tacs into assaults without jump packs (35 pt discount for transport)

As it sits tides I bought everything I mentioned above but I'm kinda concerned about all of the conversion work lol so I'm thinking about dropping out the DC and buying a few more assault squads instead. How do close combat termies and a land raider fair? Automatically Appended Next Post: I even bought lemartes to go with the DC and I was going to use my furioso as DC but I'm not really sure at all what I need now =[
